An unforgettable safari with a flawless, passionate team and unbeatable value.
We (me and my gf) went on a 5-day safari with "Suricata Safaris" in late May. To this, we added an excursion to the Materuni Waterfalls and then to the Chemka Hot Springs.
Simply put, it was an unforgettable experience because sleeping in tents under the starlight in the Serengeti and among the clouds of the Ngorongoro Crater is truly memorable.
All the excursions were perfectly planned by the staff, who briefed us every evening on how to organize ourselves for the following day.
The parks we visited were wonderful, and we were lucky enough to spot all the savannah animals, including the rarest ones like rhinos, leopards, cheetahs, and many hippos. This is in addition to seeing countless elephants, zebras, lions, antelopes, wildebeests, buffaloes, eagles, vultures, hyenas, termite mounds, giraffes, crocodiles, baboons, mongooses, a viper, and many other herbivores whose names I can't recall.
Huge praise goes to the Suricata Safaris team, from the kitchen staff to the drivers, who were absolutely flawless. Despite a minor room booking mix-up at the first hotel, the staff worked tirelessly to find solutions for every eventuality. In this case, they immediately relocated us to another property and gave us a discount on the extra excursion on the final day.
A special thanks to everyone who made the experience so unforgettable. First and foremost is Filex, an exceptional driver who spotted animals with incredible precision. He was always happy to chat and explain the animals' ethology and habits, as well as Maasai culture, being from that culture himself. What I loved most about Filex was his palpable passion for his job. For instance, the evening we slept in the Serengeti, he went out of his way to make sure we saw all the wildlife, meaning we arrived at the base camp after dark. He had been driving since early morning, but he still wanted us to see everything. With him, we truly felt a high level of quality in the service and the overall experience. Another noteworthy detail: I celebrated my birthday during the safari, and Filex and the kitchen crew (in agreement with my fiancée) organized a surprise party for me. Outstanding!
James the chef is very friendly and always hard at work preparing dishes to suit all tastes. I ate very well every single day and always felt full. So, my compliments to the kitchen as well.
I also want to thank Luther, our guide on the last day of the safari, who was professional and attentive.
Thanks also to Daniel, who assisted us on the first and penultimate days, acting as a liaison with his company.
And a big thank you to Johnny, who took us to the Materuni Waterfalls and Chemka Hot Springs. He spent the entire day with us and shared fascinating insights about the local culture, flora, and fauna.
Some technical notes: the jeeps are spacious and equipped with a fridge, which is very useful for those who appreciate cold drinks or have medications that need to be kept cool.
A cultural note, especially for those from countries where tipping isn't customary: my advice is to prepare some local currency or small bills in Euros or Dollars (e.g., 5/10 Euros/Dollars) because, generally, tipping is expected by everyone, from drivers to anyone who guides you or spends time with you. When budgeting for the trip, it's important to account for these hidden costs. By the end of the experience, they add up to a significant amount, but... they all deserve it!
The camps are basic but always equipped with showers and toilets. The tents are simple and are set up and taken down by the staff, who do an incredible job transporting everything across Tanzania, kitchen included. The tents are sturdy, and the mattresses are comfortable. The pillows are a bit hard, but if you bring an inflatable pillow, you will sleep quite well. Obviously, having all this out in the wild is already a lot; you just need to bring a bit of an adventurous spirit and adaptability.
Last but not least... Exceptional value for money. I haven't traveled with other operators, but I did get quotes from them. Suricata offered me an absolutely unbeatable price compared to all their competitors, and the quality of the experience was flawless.
Great :)
Had a great experience from beginning to end. The pickup transfer was there as soon as we left the airport and took us to a lovely hotel called Safari Homes (this is in the hills outside of Arusha so make sure you have everything you need ready for the safari before you get there). This hotel was very comfortable and we had a great first Tanzanian dinner for a good price. The next day we started the safari in Tarangire with 2 other people who stayed with us just for the day, and then we were dropped off at a comfortable campsite for the night. This isn't wild camping, so there is no view, but it's a good introduction to what the next 2 nights will be like, and there is a shop and swimming pool available. The next day we met up with 4 other people and then the 6 of us plus our guide Charles and the chef began the Serengeti and Ngongorongo safari for the next 2 days - thanks to Charles we saw the big 10 and more! Some animals were really close to the jeep, such as lions, a cheetah, elephants, zebras, gnus... Camping in the Serengeti and Ngongorongo is right inside the parks, which is amazing. The campsite in Serengeti is very rustic with cold showers and no WiFi but it's part of the adventure! Ngongorongo is a colder climate area so pack layers! But the showers are hot there. On the last day we had the option to visit a local Maasai village for $15, one of us stayed in the car while the rest did the visit.
The whole experience was fantastic and a great adventure. The tents are comfortable and very spacious. The food was good at every meal and my vegan friend was able to eat lots of food. The jeep is very comfortable with good cushioned seats and lots of pockets to leave your stuff. Water was always available.

Amazing experience, fully recomendable for my friends and family
The safari met all our expectations.
We are very happy with the experience and with the staff, specially with Amiri who was our guide during our stay. He showed great experience, he created a great atmosphere and drove us to unforgettable places to see the wild animals from very close.
I would recommend this safari to my friends and family without any doubt. For the next time I have learnt that I would increase the length of the visit :D the 5 days passed super fast.

The best trip of our lives 🇹🇿
Our 5 day safari was the best experience of our lives! Everything was perfectly organized, the crowd size was the ideal, and our guide, Amiri, was amazing. He explained so much about the animals and always knew where to find them.
The highlight was witnessing a real hunt in the wild and the big five. We also saw an incredible variety of wildlife and learned so much throughout the trip.
I would 100% recommend this safari. It was truly unforgettable and a memory we will cherish forever! 🦁🐘🦒🦏🐆
Reliable
We had good good communication with the company and were efficiently picked.up from the airport & transferred. James our cook fed us extremely well and Luther was informative and pointed out wildlife. The only bonus would have been if the company arranged for an earlier start time to enter the parks.
