We had an amazing trip with Spirit of Kenya. Everything went really went, from the planning to the trip itself. Rufus was a really good tour guide and provided a lot of valuable information about the diverse Kenian wildlife.

Everything was wonderful (3 days safari in Masai Mara, private tour, stayed in Mara Sopa Lodge). Laura was very helpful, answered all our questions. When we landed late at night, Justin was ready to welcome us. Rufus was perfect tour guide, driver and friend. Thanks a lot.

Our trip with Spirit of Kenya was an unforgettable experience. Everything from the logistics to the daily game drives was organized flawlessly. The accommodations were excellent, and our guide went above and beyond to ensure we had the best possible experience in the wild. We highly recommend their services to anyone planning a safari.

Two Good guides, One terrible - ruined the trip

Definitely take some time to read the bad reviews on other sites. They are incredibly accurate. The trip could have been incredible, we had an amazing time on the Kenya portion where we had two amazing guides. The vehicles are older and beat up, no seat belts, no air conditioning but they go through a lot so we kind of gave that a pass. Everything change when we got to Tanzania. The guide seem completely disinterested on many of our game drives. He drove slowly in circles to kill time, seemed completely uninterested in finding any animals, just drove a route he had planned and took us back to the hotel. We had to yell stop whenever we saw an animal that we wanted to see or get pictures of. Our vehicle broke down three times so our game drives were shorten on those three days. When we asked if we could go out in the evening instead, he simply chuckled. Tarangire National Park we simply drove all the way to the park to the hotel and then all the way out without a game drive at all. He told us there were no elephants in Tarangire National Park that day and just rushed us right out of the park. When I asked if he could get on the radio and find out. He said that nobody gets up early in that Park so there wasn't anybody on the radio. On our last day with him, knowing that we were all vegetarians, he intentionally picked up all meals with meat. So when he transferred us over to our new Kenya guide, we stopped to eat lunch, there was no food that we could eat. When I expressed all of this to the company, their response "We truly appreciate you taking the time to provide such candid feedback..."

Masai Mara and Lake Nakuru safari

Recently did a private safari with Spirit of Kenya (three nights in the Masai Mara, then one in Lake Nakuru), and it was everything we wanted. Having asked for quotes from a handful of companies, we went with Spirt of Kenya because of their swift responses, transparency and sensible pricing. Good decision. All through the planning process everything was dealt with efficiently and promptly, and nothing was too much trouble for Laura, who was my main contact in the office. On the safari itself, Nicolas, our guide, was fantastic at tracking down the animals and getting our Land Cruiser into the best positions for photographs. It was a real labour of love for him. The accommodation Spirit of Kenya recommended was excellent, and the transfers to and from the airport at either end of the trip seamless. If I was doing another safari any time soon – I wish! – I would have no hesitation in using Spirit of Kenya again.
