21-day Zambia | Namibia | Botswana
5/5

Greetings!

My son and I recently completed the 21-Day Namibia & Botswana tour, departing Livingstone, Zambia on the 10th of May, 2026. I am responding to the “Client Tour Report” in narrative form..

I did not book through an agent. I found Sunway Safaris, however, through safaribookings.com. I owned a (photography) safari company in Tanzania in the past, and my company was listed with safaribookings.com. I trusted, then, the vetting done by the site for companies offering available tours.

I chose this particular itinerary because I was looking for a relatively longer experience, and Namibia and Botswana have called me for a long time. The tour was physically strenuous (early morning packing up and taking down tents, long days, and tight itinerary), but I knew what to expect. That said, the tour was nothing short of AMAZING!

The equipment was excellent. The tents, mattresses, cooking utensils and cutlery were exactly what was needed; quite frankly, I found the mattresses to be more comfortable than some of the beds we slept in during the trip!

The truck, too, was perfect for such an excursion. Everything had its place, and being “Ms Organized Universe” – I loved it! Our guides insisted on the proper and intended organization and (usually) were the ones to pull out specific foods, etc., in order to maintain said organization. The truck seemed to be very well maintained, and Cloud Tsuma saw to it that it remained that way throughout the journey. Having significant experience driving on African roads, I was very impressed that there were NO breakdowns or incidents involving the mechanics of the truck (or otherwise).

Accommodations in guest houses in Swakopmund and Windhoek and even the campsite in Maun were excellent and the timing of restaurant meals, hot showers, and a break from the daily routine were welcome and very much appreciated!

Our guides (Farai Bikausaru and Cloud Tsuma) are the BEST! A conversation at dinner one evening included the difference between “knowledge” and “intelligence” - a distinction that I consider important. Maybe the most motivating factor in my travel is the opportunity to have intelligent conversations with people from all over the world. I found both Farai AND Cloud to be both highly intelligent AND VERY well-informed – (not to mention: professional). These two men worked together like a well-oiled machine. I could go on and on but suffice it to say: my standards are very high – and they were well met by this guiding team!

My son has a diagnosis of schizophrenia and autism. He is very high-functioning, but this trip challenged him in ways that didn’t affect the rest of the group in the same way. Farai and Cloud went out of their way to meet both my son’s and my dietary needs (gluten-free), to stop for ‘bushy-bushy’ when my son’s medications demanding more frequent stops, to accept his need to go to bed right after dinner, etc., etc. – all without asking questions. Their patience and consistent guidance and instruction resulted in my son’s feeling SAFE – and I watched him blossom! I am incredibly grateful to these two GOOD men.

I am thoroughly impressed with Sunway Safaris. Quite honestly, I have NO complaints or even recommendations for improvement. I certainly plan to book with you guys again and will also be recommending you to friends and family.

Thank you for everything and – again – especially to Farai and Cloud!

Sincerely,
~ Kathy R and Eric R

Nice and knowledgeable
5/5

The tour was excellent. Well organized, good food and nice guides. The only issue is the sleepingmats, so if you book this tour, I would advise to bring your own.

Definitely not mid-range standard
3/5

I did the 21-day accomdated Cape to Vic Falls tour.

Guides: were polite, nice and knowledgeable. Really the best part of what Sunway provided is them. And the only reason I have given 3 stars on this review.

Food: was good, better than expected often. Breakfast was ok, camping style most days, so not great. Dinner was always good and lunch varied more. Though the food was good, some days it was too little/light and we were quite hungry by the time dinner came.

Truck: The truck is good, well designed. But I do believe the space is a bit too small for full occupation. When it’s not full occupation is good.

Group composition: I was told the average is around 50 years old (which I thought was a bit high already), but in reality it was 70 years old average - definitely not fun to end up in a senior group if you are in your 30s or early 40s.

Accommodation: for the most absolutely horrible. Budget level and below (even though the tour is advertised as mid-range in safaribookings). Maybe 2 out of all the places we stayed for 21 days could potentially be considered mid-range. I was so disgusted at some of the places that I could not sleep. I expressed this concern in the booking process (done directly with Sunways, no third party), and the indirect response was to check out the lodges websites, which obviously I did (several times), but pictures were with no exceptions better than the reality. I would definitely not have traveled with Sunways had I known that, and this is the reason why I will no longer travel with them and cannot recommend.

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review of your 21 day Cape Town to Victoria Falls tour. We appreciate the balanced feedback and are pleased to hear that your guides made such a positive impression, as well as that you generally enjoyed the food.

On accommodation. The accommodation used is intentionally varied and reflects the remote areas we travel through across Southern Africa. In many of these regions, particularly areas such as the Cederberg, Gariep, the Namib Desert, the Okavango Delta and northern Botswana, there is not a wide range of formally graded, urban style mid range properties available, and standards can vary accordingly from stop to stop. All accommodations on this tour are classified within the 2 to 3 star bracket as detailed in the tour itinerary.

We do want to emphasise that all accommodation is listed in detail prior to booking, with direct links provided so guests can review each property in advance. This is specifically to align expectations before travel. Across the portfolio, these properties sit within a consistently 4.2 to 4.6 guest satisfaction range overall based on aggregated guest reviews, which we believe reflects solid and reliable comfort level accommodation within the context of the regions visited.

Regarding food, we are pleased that quality was generally good, but your comment on portion sizes is noted. We will review this with our operations team to ensure consistency, particularly on longer travel days where energy requirements are higher.

On the truck and space, as well as group composition, these are inherent aspects of small group overland travel. While we provide guidance on typical group profiles, we cannot guarantee a specific age mix, and we understand that this can influence individual enjoyment.

Finally, we are very glad to hear your guides delivered such a strong experience. They are central to the success of our tours, and your feedback will be shared with them.

Sunway Safaris delivered an exceptionally well‑organised, great‑value, and unforgettable adventure!
5/5

My recent Zimbabwe & Botswana Game Tracker Safari with Sunway Safaris was truly the adventure of a lifetime. Sunway delivered a phenomenal experience from start to finish, thanks in large part to their incredibly knowledgeable and highly experienced guides. Their passion for the wildlife, landscapes, and culture of Southern Africa brought every moment to life and made the journey feel both immersive and effortless.

The itinerary offered a terrific range of accommodation styles - each thoughtfully chosen to match the character of its location - and every stay was comfortable, welcoming, and uniquely memorable. Activities were exceptionally well organised, varied, and perfectly suited to each destination, giving us an authentic and diverse perspective of South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana.

What stood out most was how accurately the trip matched what was described on the Sunway website. Every promise lived up to reality. From unforgettable game viewing to seamless logistics, the safari exceeded every expectation.

Thank you, Sunway Safaris, for an extraordinary experience. I couldn’t recommend this safari more highly!

Fantastic adventure
5/5

Sunway exceeded our expectations on every score. Grace in the office kept us up-to-date from the moment of booking, including new rules on visas for our trip.
We travelled on NB21 tour encompassing, Zambia, Namibia & Botswana, our guide Chris and driver Bri were spectacular in every way, patient, knowledgeable and super hardworking, as well as highly personable making us all feel at ease.
The equipment for the camping was first rate (once we learnt the nuances of tent erection).... The food that Chris conjured up on a gas ring in the middle of nowhere was amazing and plentiful.
The group chores, helped to gel the group and added to the whole experience, being a small group made for a wonderful experience.
Given the wondrous landscapes of Namibia, the thrill of the Delta and the ample opportunities to see the big 5, this trip was huge vale for money.
I can't recommend them enough 🙌
