Great tour operator offering amazing, informative experience of Tanzania.
This was my first trip to Tanzania with some birding friends. It was fantastic, from the friendly welcome at the Kilimanjaro airport in Arusha by the guides, the well chosen, beautiful accommodation and exceptional guiding.
The main purpose of our trip was to see the rich diversity of birds present in the area of Tanzania which we had time to visit. The guides, driver Joshua and birding expert Frank, more than delivered by taking us to exquisite locations and finding the birds we were seeking. They also shared cultural and historical information which enhanced our visit. I would love to go back to Tanzania and would not hesitate to use this company again.
Fantastic birding in Tanzania
We had a wonderful experience in Tanzania. The trip itself was very well organised. Everything went according to plan. What made the trip extra special was Frank, our extra special bird guide and Joshua, our excellent driver. Not only did they share their specialist knowledge, but they also introduced us to their country and their culture, which we loved.
We had fantastic birding all along the route that exceeded our expectations.
Highly recommended
Birding Tour of southern Tanzania
My wife and I, along with four friends, just completed a three week birding tour of southern Tanzania that was organized by Nungunungu and led by Isaac Kilusu. Isaac and Joe developed an excellent itinerary based on the objectives and interests of our group. The itinerary balanced our desire to see as many of the endemic species of southern Tanzania as possible with our interest in also seeing other wildlife, the magnificent national parks and mountain ranges of southern Tanzania, and our preferred logistics. The result: about 568 species of birds and 42 species of mammals seen, and we visited many scenic areas including Kitulo, Ruaha, Mikumi and Nyerere National Parks along with Mt Rungwe and the Kilombero Wetlands, Mufundi Higlands, the Uluguru, Udzungwa and Ukaguru mountains. Our accommodations were all more than satisfactory and some were quite lovely. Our itinerary was organized so that we had very few long travel days, most days had more birding and hiking than travel. Both Isaac, who accompanied us the entire time, and Joe, who was with us at the start and finish and monitored our progress throughout, are very customer service oriented and are easy to work with. Nungunungu is owned and operated by Tanzanians, giving us more insight and understanding of the country and it's peoples. If we are fortunate enough to return to Tanzania, we will certainly use Nungunungu again.

Pleasant day’s outing around Dar Es Salam
I birded a day with January who knows his birds and stake-outs well. We saw most of the targets I had asked for. I would definitely recommend going with this organisation.
Conservation and community focused custom expedition leaders
What a memorable trip through the Eastern Arc Mountains and national parks of Tanzania. Highly recommend for Nungunungu's customization and personal touch. Joe and his team went above and beyond to plan an itinerary based on our interests (birds, hiking, wildlife) and preferred mode of travel (less driving, more time enjoying the birds). Very helpful with planning, including health protocols and dietary needs. Our birding guide Abdul is one of the top individual birders in all of Africa and knew the sites and special species like the back of his hand, and his enthusiasm was contagious. Our driver Kapande was a pleasure to be around. Accommodations were lovely. Too many highlights to list, from waterfalls to mountain farming villages to great wetlands and savannah. Good value too!
