The Best Honeymoon Decision: Meru Slopes Safari
5/5

We booked our safari tour through Meru Slopes, and it was truly the best decision we made.

Since it was our honeymoon and we had limited time, we contacted several tour companies—but only Almachius from Meru Slopes took the time to carefully customize the itinerary to fit our schedule. He responded quickly and created multiple quote options for us. Thanks to his efforts, we were able to experience so much in a short time—from the balloon tour to Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater—all while staying at the best accommodations within our budget. It was the perfect balance of comfort and adventure.

During the tour, the vehicle was in great condition, schedules were followed precisely, and our guide Samuel was absolutely phenomenal. He was incredibly professional and knowledgeable. Miraculously, every time we mentioned an animal we wanted to see—he somehow found it for us! He also made sure to check in with us regularly to see how we were feeling, which made us feel really cared for throughout the trip.

Despite the short itinerary, we were able to see an incredible variety of wildlife—countless lions, lion cubs, baby cheetahs, five rhinos, hippos fighting in the water, a leopard, and so many other rare animals. It was a truly magical and unforgettable experience.

If we ever return for another safari, especially with our parents, we will definitely choose Meru Slopes again.

2nd time in a row - The Very Best Safari Company and Guides
5/5

2nd time in a row - The Best Safari Company Guides

This was my second time, in 6 months, on a safari with Meru Slopes (Oct 2024 & May 2025) and each time, I and my traveling companions were so very very satisfied and happy. After my first trip in October 2024, I was confident in recommending Meru Slopes and Safari Guide, Douglas to a group of friends for the same safari tour in May 2025.

1) Scheduling & Arranging:
Gift October 2024
Jerome May, 2025
Both Gift and Jerome are so very very responsive, thorough, polite, professional, friendly, truly considerate and kind! They made the scheduling process and all follow-up actions: payment, lodging arrangements, customized itinerary, pickups and drop offs, so easy. They are so thorough and pay such great attention to detail that we never had complications with the arrangements and they were flexible in adjusting our plan when needed. It's so very impressive that they came to meet us (each separate time) at the end of our safari to gather 1st hand feedback & to thank us for scheduling our trip with them. 100% plus fully satisfied clients.

2) Safari Guides
Douglas: In May 2024 my husband and I first met Douglas while on safari with Meru Slopes. His 16 years of experience in wildlife safari guiding, knowledge of the various Tanzanian tribe cultures, expertise in auto mechanics, and genuine kindness & professionalism are exceptional. Every day of our busy schedule he was prompt & prepared, and the Land Cruiser was glisteningly clean & stocked with supplies (water, binoculars, wildlife identification books). Each day Douglas informed us of what to expect & when to meet the following day - all the while asking for our preferences & ready to resolve any issues (we had none!) Best of all, Douglas met us with a smile and genuine interest in getting to know us and willing to share aspects of his personal life. We soon felt like we knew his family and were his friend. One of Douglas's most impressive talents is his ability to sense where the shy animals are and how to approach them. He consistently alerted us to photo opportunities & helped us understand the wildlife behaviors and interactions in the "circle of life". I learned quickly I could trust Douglas to do his very best, above and beyond expectations, and that he truly cared that we all had the most fabulous experience. He never seemed to tire of the safari experience, even with long days, and his caring and concerns for the wildlife and his clients. Even after my return home, Douglas periodically sends me messages and always remembers to ask how our safari companions & my husband, are doing. I have the highest regard for Douglas and can recommend him to others with the certainty others will be equally thrilled to get to know him & experience Tanzania with him.

Nixon: Due to flight scheduling issues I spent an extra day in Arusha and Nixon was my guide and driver. What a delight he his! We chatted about life and work, family and relationships. He was so prompt and considerate in picking me and dropping me off, and he had so much to share about life in Tanzania. I had a very pleasant time getting to know Jerome and was very impressed with the attention he pays to his work and his clients.

Nicest people, best experiences, great deal.
5/5

It was the best travelling experience in my life so far. Meru Slopes took care of us in all fields. They picked us up from the airport, gave us a hotel before and after out trip. All food and transfers were included in the price so you don't have to care about anything the whole trip. And the personal was the best thing. First Gift warlmly welcomed us and have us introduction so we understood everything. Then Jacob, our driver, picked us up and he is the biggest boss! With him we have spent the best safari ever, because he tried hard to find all the animals and get close to them so we could observe them. He always asked if we are okay and happy and only after this he moved forward. He was also very funny, played us good music, answered all the questions, shared all the knowledge he knew about the animals and nature and solved all the situations which needed to be solved. So I must say he was very important part of our well-being. Another important person was our food engineer and chef Yohana. He was cooking for us all the food and it was delicious. I couldn't understand how he could do this miracle in the middle of safari. Also always offered us with coffee, tea, beers, cocacola...
To sum it up, Meru was very good deal because the trip with them was cheaper than with the other companies but the package included even more than the other companies so I do recommend 100%!

Unforgettable Adventure with Meru Slopes! Exceeded All Expectations!
5/5

Meru Slopes crafted a journey beyond our wildest imagination. Samwel’s expertise, the awe-inspiring wildlife spectacles, and the flawless organization left us speechless. We’re already planning our next safari with them—this experience wasn’t just a trip; it was a life-changing adventure!

Samwel, Our Expert Guide & Hero!
Samwel wasn’t just a guide—he was our eyes, storyteller, and friend. His sharp spotting skills brought us face-to-face with:
Tarangire: Wild elephants walking beneath our vehicle, baboons playing nearby, and a lazy lion napping in the distance—a perfect safari opener!
Serengeti: A dream come true! We witnessed hyenas scavenging, a lioness chasing them off her kill, a mother cheetah feeding her two cubs, and a leopard descending from a tree to drink. Thousands of gazelles, wildebeests, buffaloes, and zebras painted the golden plains.
Ngorongoro Crater: The grand finale! Samwel positioned us perfectly to witness a heart-stopping lion hunt in the volcanic caldera—so intense we held our breaths!

Beyond Wildlife: Seamless & Personalized Service
Logistics Excellence: Smooth transfers between parks, comfortable 4x4 with pop-up roof.
Stunning Accommodation: Serena lodges offered breathtaking views and luxury amid the wilderness.
Samwel’s Extra Touch: His passion for Tanzania’s ecology and culture enriched every drive. He anticipated our needs (water breaks, photo stops) and shared fascinating insights.

A Childhood Dream Realized
As lifelong fans of African wildlife documentaries, stepping into the Serengeti felt surreal. Meru Slopes didn’t just meet our dreams—they ignited our souls. Every moment, from the first elephant in Tarangire to the volcanic drama of Ngorongoro, was pure magic.

Amazing value for money
5/5

We had a really incredible 6 day tour with Meru Slopes. We were initially a little apprehensive as our tour was one of the cheapest tours available on Safari Bookings, but it turned out to be absolutely fantastic and worth every penny.

Our tour guide was super knowledgable and really great at getting us into perfect spots that other drivers would miss. He maximised our time game driving, typically setting out before the sun had risen. A hot meal for lunch at a park picnic site, then back on a game drive until 5pm or so. Our chef was excellent - cooking simple but hearty and delicious breakfasts, lunch, and dinner.

The Company went the extra mile for us - arranging transfers to the Airport; a last minute cultural experience at a Masai village; and a spare hotel room on our final day to shower before boarding our plane. All at no cost.

Accommodation was basic, but that’s what we paid for! The lodge we stayed in had a hot shower, AC, and a swimming pool. The campsites were very workable. Both had specific buildings for washing and eating. One site had hot showers, one didn’t. The tents were more than big enough for two of us.

All in, a great experience and I couldn’t recommend it more highly.

Best Mount Meru tour with Meru slopes!
5/5

We did the 4 day Mount Meru climb and afterwards we did the 4 day safari but here i will only witte about the Mount Meru. We make another review about the safari. Our experience about the mountain climb is very good. The day of arrival we got a really professional briefing from our operator and the guide. They checked our stuff and told us everything about what to expect. We underestimated the trip a bit but luckily we had the best guide (Hussein!) and the best porters. Hussein gave us a lot of info. Ofcourse about the mountain, the nature and everything but also about the culture, the tribes, the daily life of the people in Tanzania. Because of the circumstances we decided in colaboration to do the hike in 3 days instead of 4. For us it was sometimes hard and we did not feel well all the time but because of Hussein and the other staff we could make it to the summit. We were very happy with the result and the team of Meru slopes really gave us the best experience! Without them we would not have made it. One last note; be aware of the amount of tips that you are supposed to give. Although we really liked the experience and we understand the tips is really important and welcome for the staff it’s quite an amount of money that you will pay when you already payed for the trip.

A genuine host who really does everything for your experience
5/5

We booked the combination of the 4 day Mt. Meru climb and Safari. In here I will only review the safari as the combined package is not an option to choose to review.

For our tour guide we had Nuru who is a true walking encyclopaedia. He knows soooo much about animals and the environment. He can also tell you a lot about the Masai tribe. During our game drives he really took the time to answer all our questions and tell us stories of the animals and surroundings. His favorite slogan is ‘Hakuna matata’ he’s a very relaxed guy and a real professional. Also a very sharp eye. He can spot an animal from kilometers far away.

The jeep safari cars have wifi on board and you can charge your devices to never be out of power to photograph the animals.

The game drives are good but quite long and the road is bumpy (car sickness) so please reconsider this also when booking the safari

It was a great experience but in my personal opinion I would recommend doing the Serengeti 2 days (especially the basic camp sites) en 1 day Ngorongoro as I find the time that you’re in the vehicle very long. And after seeing Serengeti and Ngorongoro I think Tarangire does not really bring that extra’s

When it came to the food. The cook Elija (Bonge) always prepared fresh food for us. The food was always good but sometimes we wished a little more variation. That’s also because the meals were roughly the same during the hike!

Finally, please don’t underestimate or forget about tips. Altough it’s not the biggest amount it can really count up after several days
