Good safari experience, but unacceptable handling of the final day
I took some time before writing this review because I was hoping to receive a logical explanation and, above all, an apology from Meektrails for what happened on the final day of our safari.
We booked a private 12-day safari through Kenya and Tanzania, starting in Nairobi and ending in Arusha. Overall, most of the safari was a very good experience.
Our guide in Kenya, Ben, was excellent: professional, responsible, friendly, and always willing to do his best to give us the best possible wildlife experience. Our Tanzanian guide was also professional and made a genuine effort. The hotels were generally good, although I would not recommend the Elementaita hotel due to the enormous number of lake flies in the area.
Unfortunately, the final day was a completely different story.
The driver for our final transfer was the same guide who had been with us during the Tanzania portion of the safari. We had agreed that he would pick us up at 8:00 am. to take us to the airport for our 2:30 pm flight to Zanzibar. The drive from Ngorongoro to the airport takes approximately four hours.
At 8:00 am. , the guide did not show up. We waited until 8:45 am. without receiving any communication from him or Meektrails.
I then contacted Charles at Meektrails, explained the situation, and asked for the guide’s contact information so I could try to reach him directly. My attempts to contact the guide were unsuccessful.
Around 9:00 am. I asked Charles to urgently arrange alternative transportation so we would not miss our flight. We were in a remote area, so arranging transportation ourselves was not easy.
Finally, at 10:15 am. a taxi arrived. The driver did everything possible to get us to the airport, and after a three\-and\-a\-half\-hour journey, we managed to catch our flight to Zanzibar just in time. .
What was particularly concerning was the lack of communication. It was only after I contacted Meektrails that they became aware of the situation. I then had to send two additional messages before I was eventually told that the guide had supposedly experienced a medical emergency and had been hospitalized.
I can understand that an unexpected medical emergency can happen. What I find unacceptable is that there was no communication with us or any apparent contingency plan. Even if the guide was genuinely unable to contact anyone himself, the company should have had a system in place to realize that their guide had not arrived and immediately contact their clients.
What disappointed us even more was what happened afterwards: no apology, no follow\-up to check whether we had arrived safely, and no compensation for the stress and inconvenience.
We paid approximately USD 11,000 for a private safari for two people. At that price, we expected a much higher level of organization, communication, and customer service.
The final day was extremely uncomfortable. We had breakfast at 7:00 am. and did not have another meal until approximately 5:00 pm. when we finally arrived in Zanzibar.
I want to emphasize that the entire safari was not a bad experience. We had many excellent moments and our guides did a good job, particularly Ben in Kenya. However, the way Meektrails handled this incident and the complete lack of communication afterwards significantly affected our overall impression.
For these reasons, I cannot recommend Meektrails for the Tanzania portion of the safari.
Emergencies happen. What is within an agency’s control is having proper communication, monitoring scheduled transfers, having a contingency plan, and taking responsibility when something goes wrong.
In our case, none of this happened.
After spending USD 11,000, all we expected was something very simple: an explanation, an apology, and some gesture from the company to acknowledge the stress and inconvenience we experienced.
Unfortunately, we received none of them.

Wonderful experience highly recommend
Just back from a 10 day safari with my 16 year old son and my brother. It was an amazing experience. Our driver guide James made it for us I think. He was so professional, kind, and patient with us. He was very passionate about the wildlife and always did his best to make our safari holiday the best experience it could possibly be. The accomodation and food on the trip was amazing. I can not recommend this company and James highly enough. We are from Ireland and will be recommending this company and this trip to our friends and family.

Perfect honeymoon
My husband and I went on a 5 day safari with Meektrails for our honeymoon. We went to Amboseli, Lake Naivasha, Lake Nakuru, and Masai Mara. Our guide Ben was amazing. We felt extremely safe from the moment we met him. The trip was stress free and perfect for a honeymoon. We had incredible experiences with wildlife, and our highlight was watching a lion hunt a warthog in Masai Mara. We saw every animal we hoped to see.
We worked with Mike to book our trip and he was great as well. He communicated with us before, during and after the trip to ensure everything was going smoothly. This was truly a once in a lifetime experience and we cannot thank Meektrails enough. I highly recommend.

Trip of a lifetime!
We have just finished a week safari with Meektrail Safaris and it was excellent in every way. From planning, to pick up, to drop off we were so well looked after. James, our wonderful driver, was patient, kind, knowledgable and THE BEST driver imaginable in the difficult terrain of the Parks, as well as the drives between the Parks. An Unforgettable Kenya Safari with an Excellent and Reliable Local Tour Operator
We had an absolutely wonderful experience with Meektrails Safaris during our six-day private safari in Kenya. From our very first email to the end of our trip, everything was well organized, professional, and handled with genuine care.
Our first point of contact was William, who was incredibly kind, helpful, and responsive throughout the planning process. He patiently answered all of our questions, explained the itinerary clearly, and always replied quickly whenever we needed assistance. His communication gave us confidence that we had chosen the right company even before arriving in Kenya.
Our guide, James, made the safari truly special. He prepared the Land Cruiser so that we could travel comfortably and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the journey. Whenever we encountered wildlife, he explained what we were seeing in a detailed but easy-to-understand way. During the game drives, he always tried to position the vehicle so that we could get a better view and take photos, while also giving us plenty of time to simply enjoy the moment.
The most unforgettable moment of our entire trip was in the Masai Mara, when we witnessed two lionesses hunting a zebra. We had hoped to see lions hunting during our safari, but we honestly never imagined that we would actually witness it with our own eyes. We were incredibly excited and thrilled! It was one of those unforgettable moments that we will remember for the rest of our lives.
James also went beyond simply being a safari guide. He regularly checked whether we were comfortable and whether we were satisfied with our accommodation and meals. He even introduced us to some local music, which made the journey even more fun and helped us experience the local atmosphere and culture. His friendly personality made us feel comfortable from the beginning, and by the end of the trip, it felt like we were travelling with someone we knew rather than simply being customers on a tour.
The itinerary was also very well balanced, taking us through Amboseli, Lake Naivasha, Lake Nakuru and finally the Masai Mara. The accommodations and meals were good, and the overall arrangements were smooth. Most importantly, we never had to worry about transportation, schedules, or the practical details of the safari. We could simply relax and enjoy Kenya.
As Korean travelers visiting Kenya for the first time, choosing a trustworthy local safari company was very important to us. Meektrails Safaris gave us exactly the kind of experience we had hoped for: professional service, quick communication, a knowledgeable and caring guide, and an unforgettable safari.
We are truly grateful to William, James, and the entire Meektrails team for making our first Kenya safari such a wonderful experience. What a unforgettable safari!
We had an absolutely incredible safari experience with our guide George.
He was extremely knowledgeable about all the wildlife, birds and local plants. He had sharp eyes and helped us spot the Big Five and so many amazing animals.
He was very patient, thoughtful and always willing to adjust our route according to our wishes. He shared interesting local stories along the drive, making the whole trip vivid and unforgettable.

Perfect, choose them
We just finished our 7‑day Kenya safari with Meektrails Safaris, and we owe so much of its success to our incredible guide, George.
From day one, George’s professionalism and passion for wildlife were evident. He has an eagle eye – he spotted animals we would have completely missed, and thanks to him, we saw the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo) in their natural habitat. But what truly set him apart was his deep knowledge. Every time we encountered an animal, he would pull over, give us the English and Swahili names, and explain its behavior, diet, and role in the ecosystem.His driving was safe and smooth, even on rough terrain, and he always prioritized our comfort. He never rushed us, gave us plenty of time to take photos, and made sure we had the best spots for sunrise and sunset.

Amazing Safari
Our safari with Meektrail exceeded all our expectations and was an unforgettable experience.

Attentive and experienced safari company

Unforgettable safari experience with Meektrails!
We had an incredible 5-day / 4-night private safari with Meektrails Safaris, visiting the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Lake Nakuru National Park, Lake Naivasha (including a boat trip and walking safari), and Amboseli National Park. Everything was perfectly organized from start to finish.
