Fantastic safari experience in Tanzania
5/5

In short, our safari was a visual extravaganza accompanied by sensory saturation...the trip of a lifetime!

Thanks to my son's suggestion, we went on a father-son safari to Tanzania...something I had long dreamed about but never thought would actually happen. It was a truly amazing experience from top to bottom. Shadows of Africa is a top-notch company that accommodated our every need and was very responsive to our numerous questions and requests. (Thanks Jake & Stacy!) I highly recommend using them for your safari adventure in East Africa.

We quickly bonded with Edwin, our driver-cum-guide, who was terrific in every respect. He made the trip with his affability, local knowledge, driving skills and ability to spot animals we would have never noticed in passing. A real pleasure.

We were fortunate to see the Big 5 plus large numbers of other exotic critters such as giraffes, zebras, ostriches, hippos, hyenas, jackals, warthogs, crocs, baboons, monkeys, mongooses, 13 antelope and many bird species. Also witnessed the spectacular Mara River crossing; the wonders of the vast Serengeti; a lioness stalking/killing a male gazelle & holding it down so 4 younger family members could chow down; a few dozen vultures feasting on a fresh roadside zebra carcass; 18 lions sauntering off into high grass; 2 mature leopards sharing the same tree (mating season); an elephant family taking a river mud bath; a cluster of 16 adolescent ostriches; marching columns of wildebeest/zebras/buffalo; and lots of baby animals. Many of the animals were on or near the road making for great photo ops.

During our 10-day safari in late September, we stayed at several unique lodges and 2 tented camps which added greatly to our enjoyment. The staffs were welcoming, friendly, efficient and helpful. The food, especially the tasty hot soup for every dinner, was a special treat. Assante!

I really enjoyed visiting 3 local tribes and being exposed to the fascinating local culture. Our specialist guides for the day trips were outstanding.

After returning home, I made a lengthy list of my memorable experiences to savor in the future. Thank you Shadows of Africa!!!

9 day custom tour in Tanzania, excelent!
5/5

We spent 9 days in Tanzania with Shadows of Africa.
It was a great experience right from the first emails customising our itinerary, to Shadows organising our connecting flights, to meeting Richard (our awesome guide) at Serengeti North in a very good quality vehicle through to Richard dropping us off at Kilimanjaro Airport.
Shadows were happy to customise our itinerary, organising all our permits and accomodation, everything went without a hiccup.
Our guide was extremely knowledgable about the flora and fauna of the area including seasonality and interactions.
He always seemed to know where to go to get good interactions, we were keen to be out at first and last light and take a break or move during the heat of the day and he was more than happy to accomodate this as well as being very good at positioning the vehicle to get good photo opportunities.
We deliberately chose to not make unrealistic requests for specific encounters and to trust in Richard's ability and skills, all expectations were exceeded.
We met a competent guide at the start of our trip and said goodbye to a friend.
Highly recommend a competent, value for money tour operator.

friendly, professional and fun
5/5

Management were responsive, informative, friendly and easy to deal with. Sense of family with everyone knowing exactly what was happening. This carried through to our driver /guide Edwin who was a gem and could spot a REAL brown spot (lion, cheetah,..) amidst a sea of other just spots :-)
Food, especially in tented camp was really tasty. Thank you

A wonderful way to experience Africa.
5/5

Our trip to Africa was an amazing and visually uplifting experience with Shadows of Africa. We researched where we wanted to travel to and Shadows created a fantastic trip catering to all our needs. Our Guides Peter, in Kenya and Ritchard in Tanzania were fantastic, spotting animals from outstanding distances and hidden beneath bushes, their knowledge of all wildlife was extensive. The accommodation was fantastic and we were greeted with a cool towel and fruit juice every place we stayed. The tented camps are a fantastic way to spend a night in the teaming game parks. We experienced the Big Five from fantastic vantage points. I would really encourage anyone thinking of traveling to Africa to contact Shadows of Africa.

An unforgettable experience
5/5

This was our first trip to Africa and we went in with very little knowledge of what to expect. The folks at Shadows of Africa (Stacy and Jake) were extremely helpful throughout the process, and also very patient as we considered our options and revised our plans a couple times. They quoted a price, gave us full details about what to expect, and answered all the questions we had before and after we chose them as our safari provider.

In Africa, our driver/guide (Cyrus) was very helpful and patient. He was the first person we met after arriving in Nairobi, and the last person we saw as we returned to the airport after a truly amazing 5 days. During the safari he made sure we saw almost everything we were hoping to. His 20 years of experience in the park as well as his strong network of connections with the other drivers really aided in his ability to quickly locate some remarkable sights (lions and cheetahs feeding, jaguars hiding in trees, you name it). Overall it made for a very satisfying experience.

I highly recommend this company for their professionalism, reliability, and ultimately for the truly unforgettable experience they are able to provide you.

Fantastic Vacation
5/5

This is one of my best vacations ever. I contacted SoA only 12 hours before heading to the airport and got a response within an hour, was offered a reasonably priced all inclusive 4-day package. I traveled alone and that was not a problem either. My tour guide Amos was very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. As I am a photographer and need frequent short stops to take pictures, he accommodated my special needs very well. I enjoyed the trip tremendously and got so many great pictures. I love Africa, and I highly recommend Shadows of Africa.

Fun, friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable, flexible!
5/5

From the time we met Stacey and Jake at the Washington, DC travel and adventure show, to the final good-bye at the airport, the Shadows of Africa staff was warm, welcoming, friendly, and willing to answer any question we had! We traveled with six children ranging in age from 22-7, and everyone had an unforgettable time! We chose Shadows of Africa because they could customize our tour, and because we would be by ourselves in the safari jeeps. The personal service, itinerary customization, knowledge of the drivers/guides, and food exceeded our expectations!! Loved seeing how the primitive tribes are still living today, all of the treasured wildlife, and the spectacular scenery.

Great trip - Reliable Operator
5/5

We had a really nice safari in Tanzania (we had a short span of time to travel, so the company made a special itinerary for us). We had a fantastic guide, Richard. He was attentive (but not overbearing!) and just nice to hang out with for a couple of days. Overall enjoyed the safari very much. I'll also say that after looking for a bunch of different options (Kenya, Tanzania, etc) Shadows of Africa was one of the few, that kept sending us different itineraries (we changed our minds a lot!), and checking in about our plans. Overall very good service.

Amazing adventure
5/5

We had short safari with friends in the end on June. After day with Maasai Tribe, we visited most of main parks in Tanzania: Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Tarangire. I’m happy we travelled with Shadows of Africa, cause there is nothing to complain about. Our guide Daniel was really cool, he could answer every each question about wildlife and thanks to his experience we were lucky to see all Big 5.
We stayed in different lodges during trip, all of them were well-chosen. I didn't have any problems with special vegetarian menu. Choice of food was good, even in lunch boxes.
We had really nice time and took a lot of nice pictures. I can tell that Shadows team is professional, even before trip we were informed enough, they made a perfect plan for safari. I definitely recommend Shadows of Africa!

The best vacation!!
5/5

We have enjoyed our safari experience from beginning to end. Shadows of Africa answered every question we had before our trip. Modified it to what we wanted to do and visit. Once we got there Timothy, our guide was waiting for us at the airport. What a great tour guide, very knowledgeable, and incredible personality. And then Goddy, our chef, that we met the night that we camped. You could not believe the wonders he prepared in a tiny little stove, delicious!! The Safari tour itself was incredible. The amount of animals in their natural habitat is something you can't start to believe until you live it like we did. Thanks Shadows of Africa and thanks Timothy and Goddy, for this experience of a lifetime in Tanzania!!!!
