Disastrous Train Booking (Daud John Kiango)
1/5

I attempted to arrange for a train ticket from Mbeya to Dar es Salaam with Daud John Kiango after he responded to an online inquiry I had made through the website http://tanzaniasafariszanzibartravel.org (which I found through a link on the train travel site seat61).

I took the chance on Daud and paid $75 in advance for him to book me a ticket, which I was to pick up at the Mbeya Tazara train station. However he never followed through and after spending two frustrating days at the Mbeya Tazara booking office I was never able to get the ticket which I had paid Daud to procure for me.

I was forced to take a bus to Dar instead and Daud promised me a prompt refund. He of course never processed a refund but did send me several incoherent emails, presumably meant to confuse me.

I would avoid this company completely.

4 days Safari
5/5

Got picked up from airport as agreed, very good hotel (taking into account that you are in Tanzania) and we went to safari next day. 4 days in wilderness were one of the greatest experiences in my life and supported by great cook (what he did without proper electricity and only with gas bomb was unbelievable, the chocolate cake last evening almost brought tears to my eyes :D) and driver/guide David, who was fun and knowledgable at the same time, thank you very much for everything!!
... on the other hand, be prepared that you will be staying in complete wilderness in tents, so showers/toilets might be a little "Spartan"

Dream Come True
5/5

Our group of 8 friends went on the 8 day safari trip organized by Dickson. The beautiful landscapes of Africa are amazing especially during sun rise and sun set. We recorded 49 different animals using camera and video including cheetahs, a family of 8 lions, large harps of elephants, as well as the giant hippos in the river, lake and pond. The wild beast and Zebra migrations are magnificent. I was amazed at the number of zebras and giraffes in Masai. Our driver was Mori. He is a safe driver very nice and helpful. he also entertained us throughout the trip. the food was excellent buffet style breakfast and dinner. most lunched were picnics except first and last day. We slept in cabin style tents for two nights with shower and toilet in our room and the rest of the nights in the hotels that were wonderful and exceeded our expectations for the price we paid. This trip made my Africa Dream come true and I can't wait to go back again to see the animals! Thanks a million Mr. Dickson!

Wonderful 7 day Safari
5/5

We had a wonderful 7 day safari private tour with Shemeji Safari. Everything exceeded our expectations. We were on a budget, but luxury-on-a budget is what we got. Our guide Edward was excellent, he suited our easy going style and made us feel like family. The food and accommodation was exceptional and we loved the hut and tented accommodation. All the arrangements appeared seamless to us, but we know that this is because of all the hard work that goes on from the start so a special thanks to Emma.

Our guide somehow understood how to navigate this flat, shimmery, beautiful landscape and we saw lots of bird species.

We took a mid-day (motored) game drive and still saw lots of animals, including lions. We took a pontoon trip in late afternoon/sunset and were able to see elephants, crocodiles and hippos up close, which was really special.

Singular opportunity to track animals on foot and by makuro (dugout canoe).

I spent about 48 hours in the Okavango Delta, where I saw zebra and elephants up close, hippos (close enough!) and learned about the unique habitat through guided walks and makuro trips. We had the opportunity to try our hand at poling a makuro, and were able to interact meaningfully with local guides. This was a different and refreshing pace from motored game-drives. It allowed us to feel like an integrated part of this special habitat, just another small herd.

Botswana seems to really understand conservation through eco-tourism. Our guides helped us understand and uphold the ethos, "take only photographs, leave only footprints," which enhanced not diminished our experience. I'd love to return.
