Working with Dancing Zebra Safari was terrific: personal, thoughtful, responsive, great.
It was the biggest trip of our lives, and likely the last one we be able to get both our boys (14 and 17) to take with us as they move on to college. So it meant a lot. And we had tons of questions.
We couldn’t have been in better hands.
Jessica called us right away to talk through what we were thinking about. Her itinerary took us from Lemala’s Hamerkop House in Arusha to Treetops at Tarangire, Crater’s Edge at Ngorongoro, then to Lemala’s Kuria Hills Lodge in the Northern Serengeti and last, a day at the Coffee Lodge in Arusha.
Every place we stayed seemed more amazing than the last and the staff everywhere was so so good.
And better, one of us is a serious celiac (gluten allergy), and everywhere we went the chefs took care to prep meals to accommodate.
Did we see wildlife? Yes, we were fortunate to see all the big 5 (including a long encounter with a leopard at Ngorongoro), but even more fortunate to spend our time with Steven James, a guide who was funny, engaging, and super knowledgeable about what we were seeing. (We really laughed a lot!) A truly good hearted man who clearly loves the world he was sharing with us. A hit with both our teenage boys.
Last, the days we visited the Masai and the city of Mto wa Mbu (River of Mosquitos) were insightful, fun, and world-opening. We appreciated everyone we met — whether in the rice fields (that is HARD work!), the Boma, or the banana plantation (amazing lunch there) — and the way they gave us an idea of every day life in Tanzania. Worthwhile in a deep way.
Jessica, thank you. And thank you, Steven. And everyone who took care of us from the moment we touched ground at JRO to when we left 11 days later.

Amazing experience!
John's team is wonderful! We planned an ambitious itinerary that included Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania, and John's company took care of everything in the latter two countries! We covered many kilometers, passing through villages and towns, enjoying an authentic and genuine experience. He spared no effort to ensure we saw the great migration, monitoring the herds and making the necessary adjustments to ensure everything went smoothly. The guides are patient, knowledgeable, and very friendly! The hotels were excellent, as were the vehicles we used. We highly recommend them!

Being threatened and kidnapped! What a terrible experience! I am a victim!
My mom and I spent $10,000 on the trip, not including airfare. We booked a 12-day luxury tour in Kenya and Tanzania. They were so annoying along the way, making faces, robbing, and threatening our lives. It felt like they had no reason to rob us of our money.
Some of the hotels they booked for us were very ordinary. Silas threw us to the other two tour guides and sent messages throughout the trip. They were not two tour guides, but just two drivers. The tour guide in Kenya, Chris, changed his face from the moment he left Kenya. I didn't give him a lot of tips at first because I exchanged all my beauty coins for county magistrates. Then he made faces along the way. To be honest, I felt that I was providing him with emotional value along the way instead of the other way around. What a piece of shit.
Tanzania was even more exaggerated. They took us to the Maasai village. At first, they said it was 100 US dollars per person. Later, when we got off the car, the chief said it was 100 US dollars per person. I said we would not go there. We took some photos in the valley (no photos of people). As a result, they threatened us that this place was theirs and we could not take photos. We went to get in the car. When we got in, they stopped us and asked how much money we had. I wanted to close the door, but they said they would not let us. Is this robbery in broad daylight?
Then Silas told the tour guide Micheal that there was a 10 US dollar tip per person per day. I gave him a shilling and he said what was this? To send away beggars? I said I didn’t have that much US dollars and he said you go get it.
On the way back to Kenya, we were asked to change to another black car. We thought we were kidnapped and almost called the police because Silas said there was no such arrangement.
If you want to ruin your vacation, choose them. Robbers! 0 experience!

Professional, reliable and fun!
Hiking Mount Kili was never on my bucket list until speaking with Gift last year on a Safari that he said I could do it “pole pole”-which means slowly slowly.
I’m so thankful that I listened to Gift! The view from the top was definitely worth it. I chose the Marangu route, which is also known as the ‘Coca Cola’ route. This route has a steady ascent, huts where you can sleep instead of tents, and also has one of the shortest distances to summit. It took us 4 days to reach summit and about 1 1/2 days to descend completely. With the Marangu route, there is an option for an extra day to help acclimatize to the altitude.
Everything was so well organized! Prior to departing home, I was sent a gear/packing list. The day before the hike, I met with my guide, Kennedy, where he reviewed the game plan, when over safety information, and also checked my gear. During the hike, at the end of each day we would debrief and go over the plan for the next day. During the hike, Gift and Kennedy set a realistic pace for me and would recognize when I needed a breather.
The team that Gift put together was amazing-I’m so thankful for all of them! Everyone was so kind, encouraging, and went above and beyond to make sure that I was comfortable. Catbeth, one of our porters, would bring me coffee to my hut each morning and the chef put together delicious and nutritious meals-it felt like luxury camping.
The hardest day was Summit night. But as you’ll hear in the mountain-“pole pole” is the way to go. Kennedy and Gift did a great job in leading the way. There was also a porter that helped carry my water and snacks so that I could just focus on hiking.
I’m so thankful for the entire team. The team genuinely wanted to see me succeed.
I’ve done a few Safaris with Gifted African Adventures before. I highly recommend them for any of your travel needs/goals. They do an amazing job at organizing everything while creating a personalized itinerary. Most importantly, they create a fun and memorable experience.

We would 200% use Compass Odyssey again, they created a magical trip of a lifetime for our family!
Darren and Kate were so personable, knowledgeable and unbelievable responsive to our numerous and ongoing questions. ( Believe me we had a lot as first time safari travelers!)
Our trip was seamless, the places we stayed were all comfortable and unique, making each site/lodge a new adventure! The guides, the staff, the activities and the locations were beyond amazing.
It was very nice to hear the various staff and guides speak so highly of Darren and Compass. It is obvious he has a stellar reputation and respect of the local people, lodges and safari guides. If an African Safari is on your bucket list, Compass Odyssey is the way to go!

Responsive, knowledgable and helpful
Communication with the company was great, Bella was responsive and helpful, including helping with booking accommodation before and after the tour. The actual tour was fantastic - the gorilla trekking was out of this world, the chimp trekking was fantastic and the safari was incredible. Blair, our guide, was absolutely wonderful, including taking us to local restaurants when we asked to have traditional Ugandan meals, explaining culture and customs, language and history. The local guide in Queen Elizabeth, Ronaldo, was also fabulous and incredibly knowledgeable. We had such a lovely time and everyone we met along the way was friendly and kind. Would absolutely recommend to friends and family.

Perfect, 100% recommend !
Bernard has been great on every aspect of the trip ! Very reliable and punctual. Always arranging everything for us to have a great trip, telling us a lot about Uganda and the culture here.
We did the gorilla trek and could spend 1h with them, even got to see a baby and everything was very well organised.
We can tell Bernard has been in the industry for a while and knows exactly what he is doing, where to go etc.
