An excellent safari with a fantastic guide.
4/5

We had an excellent safari with Hyrax. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and we're already talking about doing another safari in the future.

Our driver and guide, Ben, was excellent. He was a very safe and considerate driver, knowledgeable about the wildlife and the area, and generally very easy to get along with. We saw a huge amount of wildlife and had a fantastic time in the Maasai Mara.

I was also impressed with how Hyrax responded when we had an issue with our original vehicle. It was a small four-seater Land Cruiser and wasn't really suitable for game drives, particularly for someone tall. It was difficult to stand up properly and get a good view through the roof. We asked if it could be changed, and Hyrax arranged a replacement as soon as they could. The replacement was much better. Problems happen, and I think responding quickly and fixing them is what matters.

The reason I'm giving four stars rather than five is mainly the organisation before the safari. The paperwork and payment process sometimes felt a bit sloppy. Most concerning was being given an incorrect routing number for the bank transfer. That's not something you want to find out when you're about to transfer around US$6,000. Their bank also deducted an additional US$30 fee, which Hyrax asked me to cover rather than absorbing themselves. It wasn't a large amount compared with the cost of the trip, but it added to the frustration with the payment process.

Overall, though, the most important thing is the safari itself, and that was excellent. We had a great experience, Ben was a fantastic guide, and Hyrax dealt quickly with the one problem we had during the trip. With a more organised booking and payment process, I would happily have given them five stars.

My fiancée and I had a very unforgettable journey here. The two of us watched the sunrise and sunset on the savanna together. We saw lions on their honeymoon, saw [something—possibly “them having ideas”?], saw elephants being eaten, and saw a crocodile eating a zebra. It could be tested once, and it made us feel very painful. We also often felt the preciousness of life. For us, it was extraordinarily meaningful.

5 STARS best Kenya private Safari
5/5

5 STARS! What an incredible experience! Our safari with Camptrek was truly the trip of a lifetime and exceeded everything we had hoped for.

We were a group of five active seniors traveling together on a private safari, and Camptrek created the perfect experience for us. Having our own vehicle and guide gave us tremendous flexibility and allowed us to enjoy Kenya at our own pace. We were also very impressed by the value. For a private, personalized safari of this quality, Camptrek provided a very cost-effective way to experience the very best of Kenya.

We traveled through six national parks, and every one was different and spectacular in its own way. The variety of scenery and wildlife was amazing. We saw more animals than we ever imagined, had some truly unforgettable encounters, and experienced the beauty of Kenya in a way that pictures simply cannot capture. Every day brought a new adventure and another wonderful surprise.

What made the trip especially memorable was our guide, Ben. We could not have asked for anyone better. Ben was incredibly knowledgeable about the animals, birds, parks, and local culture, and he had a wonderful way of sharing that knowledge with us. He was engaging, fun, patient, and always looking for ways to make our experience even better.

And what a driver! Some of the roads and trails were an adventure all by themselves, and Ben handled everything beautifully. Most importantly, he genuinely cared about us. He watched over us, anticipated what we needed, and made us feel completely comfortable and safe throughout the trip. By the end of our safari, Ben wasn’t just our guide—he had become our friend.

And then there is Rose, who was absolutely wonderful from the very beginning. Planning a safari like this involves so many details, and Rose made the entire process easy and enjoyable. Her communication was outstanding. She listened to what we wanted, answered our questions, offered excellent suggestions, and created an itinerary that was perfect for five active seniors who wanted to see and experience as much as possible. From our first conversation through the completion of the trip, she was responsive, professional, caring, and simply a pleasure to work with.

Camptrek delivered everything they promised—and much more. The organization was excellent, the accommodations and destinations were wonderful, and the entire experience had just the right combination of comfort, variety, excitement, and adventure.

We came to Kenya hoping for a great safari. We left with extraordinary memories, wonderful stories, thousands of photographs, and a new appreciation for this magnificent country and its people.

Thank you, Rose, Ben, and the entire Camptrek team for giving the five of us an experience we will treasure forever.

If you are considering a safari in Kenya—especially if you are a small group looking for a private, personalized safari—we wholeheartedly recommend Camptrek. It was an exceptional experience and an excellent value. Five stars simply aren’t enough!

I want to express my huge gratitude to Ambomara for an incredible safari! I spent a long time researching different companies, reading reviews, and checking out recommendations from bloggers before deciding who to go with. In the end, Ambomara Africa was recommended to me—and it turned out to be the best decision.

We were in touch with Viktor, and from the very first messages, it was clear we were in good hands. He is a delightful and attentive manager: he explained everything in detail, answered our questions, helped us choose the right itinerary, and organized a top-notch trip.

A group of six girlfriends and I went on a three-day safari and visited three parks. It was an absolute delight! Stunning scenery, incredible wildlife right up close, comfortable accommodations, genuine care from the team, and delicious food. It felt like stepping into a living cartoon—everything was so beautiful, vibrant, and truly magical.

A special thank you to Viktor and the entire team for the way they treated us; we felt surrounded by attention and care—literally like daughters. We loved it immensely, and the memories will last a lifetime!

Thank you so much for this dream trip. I will definitely recommend Ambomara Africa to all my friends!

5/5

We went on a seven-day private mid-range safari with Meru Slopes Tours through Tarangire National Park, the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater – and we were absolutely thrilled from start to finish. The entire trip was exceptionally well organized and exceeded our expectations in every respect. We would recommend Meru Slopes without hesitation!
From the initial planning to the communication throughout the entire trip, everything was first-class. Leonard, who was responsible for organizing our safari, was always reliable, helpful and made sure that everything ran smoothly. At no point did we feel that we had to worry about anything ourselves – from our perspective, it would be hard to imagine a better-organized safari.

We would also like to give special praise to our guide, Stanley. He has an impressive knowledge of wildlife, nature and the national parks. We had an incredible number of questions, and Stanley took the time to answer every single one of them, explaining everything patiently and in great detail. At the same time, he had an excellent sense of where and when the best opportunities for wildlife sightings were likely to arise. It is also a great advantage that the guides are connected by radio and share information about animal sightings with each other. Stanley repeatedly positioned us in fantastic spots, allowing us to get “up close” to the animals and take some outstanding photographs.

Thanks to Stanley, we saw all of the Big Five – four of them on the very first day! As expected, we spotted the rhino on our final day in the Ngorongoro Crater.

Overall, we were incredibly lucky during our safari. One absolute highlight was witnessing the famous river crossing at the Mara River. We only had to wait for about an hour before we got to witness this spectacular natural phenomenon. Stanley explained to us that the chances of seeing such a crossing on any given day are only around 5–10%. We also heard from other travellers that some of them had waited for four days without seeing a single crossing.

There were plenty of other encounters that we will definitely never forget. We saw a lioness immediately after a zebra kill, and one evening we even witnessed a lion taking down a large buffalo not far from our camp.

The lodges were also excellent without exception. All of the accommodations were very comfortable, the food was great, and the staff everywhere were incredibly friendly and welcoming.

One small note for future guests: We found the visit to a Maasai village interesting overall and appreciated the opportunity to gain some insight into the local culture. At the same time, however, we felt that the visit was very much geared towards getting money from tourists. From the beginning, we were of course more than happy to make a donation to support the Maasai and the village. What we found somewhat uncomfortable, though, was that several parts of the visit felt more like a staged performance, with requests for money being made at various points, more or less subtly.

At the very end, there was also an additional expectation to purchase souvenirs, which was initially presented to us as a contribution towards providing clean drinking water for the village. We were only told the prices after we had selected the items, and were then asked about our personal “budget”. We found the way this was handled relatively uncomfortable.

We are mentioning this explicitly only as a note for other travellers – it did not in any way overshadow our otherwise fantastic safari experience with Meru Slopes.

All in all, this safari was an absolute dream experience for us. The organization, communication, lodges, wildlife sightings, and especially Leonard and our guide Stanley were outstanding. We truly felt that we were in very good hands with Meru Slopes and were able to simply relax and enjoy the entire trip.

A huge thank you to Leonard, Stanley and the entire team at Meru Slopes Tours for this unforgettable week! We would happily go on safari with you again at any time and can recommend Meru Slopes without hesitation.

Wonderful experience in Kenya!
5/5

We loved our safari in Kenya with Leopard Orchid Safaris! Booking the tour went smoothly with quick responses to our questions and we appreciated the flexibility in choosing lodging that best met our needs. Our guide, Francis, did an exceptional job taking care of every detail. He made sure we knew the plans each day and what to expect as situations changed. His knowledge of the wildlife and parks is very impressive and we learned so much about Kenya, too. Experience of a lifetime!

Our guide Shawn was absolutely wonderful. He is incredibly patient, warm and fun‑loving. He would voluntarily tell us about the animals’ natural habitats and seek out all kinds of fascinating scenery for us. Even when we were running late, he would wait for us with great patience.

Not only did he show us a huge variety of wildlife, he also introduced us to plenty of local culture. Whenever we passed distinctive local buildings during the trip, he offered explanations without us asking. He even brought small stools for us when we got in and out of the vehicle. There was always cold bottled water available in the car fridge. He tried his best to meet almost all our requests and was very attentive to how we felt. He brought us so much joy on this Safari. We highly recommend him.
