We booked a 3-day, 2-night safari with Crater Explorer from Italy, after reading numerous positive reviews and hearing feedback from others who had already had this experience. We can confidently say that it was an excellent choice!
From our very first interactions, Emanuel was helpful, clear, and professional, guiding us through the planning of our trip.
The safari was very well organized; there were six of us in the jeep—a small group size that made the experience even more enjoyable. A special thanks to our guide, Omar—who was highly knowledgeable, competent, and always attentive—and to our chef, Emanuel, who delighted us every day with excellent and varied breakfasts, lunches, and dinners.
We opted for the camping package: the first campsite in the Serengeti is quite basic, with tents and shared facilities, while the Simba Camping site, where we stayed the second night, offers a few more comforts, including hot showers and a covered common area.
A quick note regarding an unforeseen issue during our return from the safari: the jeep we were using broke down and wouldn't start again. However, the company’s response was impeccable—another jeep arrived very quickly to pick us up and take us to our accommodation, handling the situation without any significant inconvenience.
A small piece of advice for those booking: if you have specific requirements regarding accommodation—such as double or single rooms—be sure to confirm availability in advance. In our case, as a group of three requesting one double and one single room, the arrangements didn't always match our initial request. It wasn't a problem for us, but it is definitely something to clarify before departure.
We also greatly appreciated the services included in the package, ranging from airport pick-up and pre- and post-safari accommodation to the final transfer. It was our first time relying entirely on a local agency while organizing everything from Italy, and we couldn’t have made a better choice. It was a wonderful experience—one we would highly recommend to anyone looking to go on a safari in Tanzania!

Simply amazing
Makisala is legit and I will be contacting them again on my next trip to Africa. We went gorilla trekking in Rwanda, and makisala made our trip as easy as could be. The tour guide/driver that they introduced us to, Philbert, was spectacular. He was such a great person. If we could, we would have him take us on a tour all around Africa. Highly highly recommend Makisala safaris for gorilla trekking, and if possible, ask specifically for Philbert!

Excellent experience and knowledgable driver
Our worry about travelling in November was about what animals we would see and the weather conditions. After speaking to suricata safaris, our concerns were put to ease and they were right!
We were picked up promptly from the airport and dropped off at our hotel in Arusha.
Steve, our driver, picked us up the day after for the beginning of our safari.
Our first stop was Tarangire where we saw loads of animals with the highlight being seeing a herd of elephants 2-3 meters away. Our evening was concluded at the great Suricata Boma Lodge.
Next stop was the serengeti where we stayed at the tanzania bush camp (highly recommended to everyone). The ride was a bit uncomfortable due to the road conditions but Steve had the car checked before our long drive and we had no issues (unlike many other cars that had broken down on the road).
The safari experience itself over the next two days was amazing. Lions -male and female - withing 2-3 meters from the car, cubs a bit further away, hyenas, buffalo, wilderbeast, vultures, cheetas and leopards. Steve also had an amazing eye allowing us to spot these animals and get close when nobody else could (especially the leopards).
Our safari was then concluded in the Ngorongoro crater which we spent looking for black rhinos. We ended up finding 4 - even all the other drivers were surprised as they usually only ever see them from afar.

A Dream Safari Come True for Our Family! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
As a family, we have travelled to many places, but our Kenya safari will always hold a very special place in our hearts. From Amboseli and Lake Naivasha to the breathtaking Maasai Mara, every moment was filled with wonder, excitement, and unforgettable memories.
Watching lions, elephants, leopards, and cheetahs in their natural habitat was a dream come true, but what made the trip truly special was the warmth of the people we met. Spending time with the Maasai community and learning about their way of life was an experience our family will cherish forever.
A heartfelt thank you to our guide, Johnstone, who felt more like family than a guide by the end of the trip. His incredible knowledge, patience, kindness, and genuine care made every game drive memorable and every journey safe and enjoyable.
