I’d been looking online for a tour operator who could guide us around Uganda for three weeks, and came across Home to Africa. I booked with them because of the many positive reviews, and I wasn’t disappointed. We booked our own accommodation, and that wasn’t a problem for them. Our driver, Brian, is a really lovely chap and drives very safely. He knows a great deal about the country and the wildlife. He’s a birdwatcher himself, which worked out well for me, as I got extra information about the many birds that live there. He was also able to spot them very quickly; I would never have seen them if he hadn’t been with us. Overall, Brian was also very pleasant to be around; he understood us without needing any explanation. He was always punctual. We couldn’t have imagined a better driver and guide. So, don’t hesitate – just book!
A quick note: if you’re planning to go on the gorilla trek, be sure to check in advance which sector you want to do and discuss this with your tour operator, as not all treks are equally easy (i.e. there are very steep slopes in Nkuringo)

Serious concerns about the company's integrity and professional conduct
I booked a Botswana safari through Discover Africa. Unfortunately, my experience with Discover Africa was very disappointing.
Before the safari, I clearly communicated my dietary restrictions, and Discover Africa confirmed that these had been conveyed to the operator. However, during the safari, the tour operator was unaware of my restrictions. As a result, I had difficulty finding suitable food and drinks during much of the safari.
There were also problems with airport reception in Maun and with the information I received about check-in luggage. I had been told by Discover Africa that someone from the operator would receive me at the airport upon arrival and assist me, but no one was there. I had to figure out the charter flight time and arrangements myself. In the end, I had to ask other operators at the airport for assistance. I was also given incorrect information about luggage, which resulted in me repacking unnecessarily before the flight.
Another important issue is the value for money. I paid the same price as the operator's public price on its website, so I expected the travel agent to add value through proper communication, coordination and support. Instead, I felt that my needs were not properly followed up or communicated to the operator.
After I raised these problems, my agent at Discover Africa did respond and reviewed the issues with the operator. However, I felt that the responses mainly explained how the problems had occurred rather than addressing my concerns. Some of the replies also felt very generic and impersonal.
Overall, my concern is that I did not feel there was sufficient added value or coordination from Discover Africa. I felt that the additional communication involved in booking through the agent contributed to problems that I had specifically tried to avoid by communicating my requirements in advance, while I paid the same public price as booking directly with the operator.
Most concerningly, after I posted a factual review of my experience on Safaribookings, this company reported to Safaribookings that I never booked with them to delete my review. I find this dishonest behaviour extremely concerning. I now have serious concerns about the company's integrity.
Based on my experience, I would not use Discover Africa again. The safari experience itself was amazing, as was Botswana and the Okavango Delta, but not Discover Africa.

Fantastic from the first email
From the first email to enquire about a safari was great from start to finish. I advised what I was looking for and I was given quite a few options to choose from. We did our research and then advised which option we wanted. All that was requested was a small deposit to secure the booking and the rest to be paid in cash when we arrived at our hotel. The safari experience was fantastic from start to finish, from collection from our hotel to arrival at our destination. We knew all the fame drives that we would be taking, and what an amazing experience we had, seeing the big 5, a cheetah kill, lion kills and leopard. Even 3 baby lion cubs. Can highly recommend this company

Bob replies to every request and email in a very short time and he got us room upgrades for our honeymoon. We did gorilla and chimp trekking, a kazinga channel cruise with hippos and elephants and safaris at Queen Elisabeth national park, as well! Highly recommend!

It was a fantastic safari experience. Our guide, Tomas, successfully led us to see the Great Migration river crossings and a wide variety of wildlife, truly bringing my vision of the African savanna to life. The hunting and archery experience with the Hadzabe tribe was also excellent. Due to a flight delay, my travel companion and I had to head to the airport separately; John from MEIJO kindly rearranged the transfers for us, saving us a lot of hassle—thank you! I will certainly miss the animals of Africa and look forward to returning during the next calving season.
