Samburu National Reserve as a safari destination has a rugged and dramatic landscape. The Ewasso Nyiro River runs along the southern boundary dividing Samburu Reserve. It is home to crocodiles and hippos. A Samburu safari may offer sightings of buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah and other plains game. Species of game unique to Samburu National Reserve include the beisa oryx, the long-necked gerenuk, Grevy's zebra, the reticulated giraffe and the blue-shanked Somali ostrich.
