The Machame Route, known as the "Whiskey Route" for its challenging nature, contrasts with the easier "Coca-Cola Route" (Marangu). Climbers hike steeper trails, cover longer distances, and sleep in tents. It can be completed in 6 days but is best done in 7 for better acclimatization. Starting at Machame Gate in the rainforest, the trail leads to the Shira Plateau, circles the southern circuit with panoramic views, then ascends from the east and descends via the Mweka trail.
