Transfer from Kigali to Volcanoes – Golden Monkey Trek & Transfer to Bwindi

Your driver-guide will pick you up early morning from your hotel or from Kigali International Airport.

If time allows, enjoy a short city drive in Kigali before heading north towards the beautiful Virunga mountain ranges.

After about 2.5 hours you arrive at Volcanoes National Park for your golden monkey trekking briefing.

You will then enter the forest in search of the rare and playful golden monkeys. These little primates are fast, curious, and full of energy. You will spend one hour observing them as they jump between bamboo trees and feed in the forest.

After the trek, return for lunch and then transfer to Uganda via the Cyanika border.

Continue to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, home of the endangered mountain gorillas. Arrival is in the evening. Check in, relax, and prepare for the main highlight tomorrow.

Gorilla Trekking in Mgahinga & Transfer Back to Kigali

Early breakfast, then transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing before your gorilla trekking experience at the park headquarters of Mgahinga National Park.

Accompanied by experienced rangers, you will hike through thick forest searching for a habituated gorilla family. The trek can take anywhere between 1 to 6 hours depending on where the gorillas are.

Once you find them, you spend one magical hour in their presence. Watching a silverback, mothers caring for babies, and juveniles playing in the wild is truly emotional and unforgettable.

After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch before beginning your transfer back to Kigali. The drive takes about 4–5 hours including the border crossing.

Drop off at your hotel or at Kigali International Airport for your departure flight.
