Day 1

Domestic flight from Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar to Iringa

You will be picked up from Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar Island and transferred to the airport for your flight to Iringa. Upon meeting your driver-guide at the Iringa airport, you will be transferred to the city for a hot lunch, and later local and city tour.

Iringa derives its name from the Hehe word “lilinga,” which means “fort.” Iringa originated as a defense base in the days of German rule in Tanzania. Prior to the arrival of Germans, Iringa was settled by Hehe people, led by Chief Mkwawa, whose fortress still can be seen in Kalenga village. You will visit a stone age site and the Italian old mission cathedral before ending your day with a stunning sunset, leisure, dinner, and your overnight stay in Iringa.

After breakfast you will drive to Ruaha National Park via Nyamahana and Tungamalenga village. You will enjoy some in-route sightseeing before arriving in time for a hot lunch, check-in, and afternoon game drive. You have the option to relax and experience nature viewing at the camp. You will have the chance to see elephants, giraffes, kudu, lions, leopards, jackals, hyenas, African wild dogs, and many more.

Dinner and your overnight stay will be at Ruaha National Park.

After breakfast, you will depart for a full-day game drive in Ruaha. You can choose between either a picnic or hot lunch.

Ruaha National Park is a unique, largely unexplored ecosystem, which makes for a very special safari experience. It the second largest park in Tanzania and the home of the greater Kudu, which cannot be found anywhere else. You will enjoy seeing wildlife amidst a truly fascinating landscape.

Dinner and your overnight stay will be at Ruaha National Park.

After breakfast, you will departure for a full-day game drive in Ruaha. You can choose between either a picnic or hot lunch.

Ruaha is almost as large as the Serengeti, and its untouched nature makes it one of the most exciting game reserves. Its 350 different species of birds make it a birdwatching paradise. Wildlife is concentrated along the Great Ruaha River in the heart of the park. The shores of the river are a permanent hunting ground for lion, leopard, jackal, hyenas, and African wild dog. Enjoy the fascinating beauty of the park before driving back to your lodge.

Dinner and your overnight stay will be at Ruaha National Park.

Early breakfast, you will make your way to the Iringa airstrip for a scheduled flight to Zanzibar via Dar es Salaam. You have the option to fly direct to Zanzibar Island. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to your Zanzibar beach hotel, which we can recommend and assist you with reserving.
