July to October is the middle and end of the Dry season. These are the best wildlife viewing months, as all water in the bush has dried out, and animals gather around the remaining water sources. The Busanga Plains are located in a large wetland area, which becomes totally inaccessible in the Wet season. The plains are best visited from August to October.

Best Time July to October (The bush is dry, and animals are easy to find)
High Season July to October (High season rates may apply; the park never gets busy)
Low Season Mid-November to May (Some lodges close during part of the Wet season; low season rates apply)
Best Weather April to August (It is cooler and it hardly ever rains)
Worst Weather October to March (Hot and wet weather)

May to October Dry Season

  • Wildlife viewing at its best as animals gather at water sources and vegetation thins out
  • Days are sunny, and it rarely rains
  • Malaria risk is minimal as there are few mosquitos around
  • Busanga Plains is only accessible in the Dry season and best visited from August to October
  • High season rates may apply
  • The sky is very hazy, and the bush looks parched
  • October is very hot
  • Mornings are cold and warm clothing is necessary for early morning game drives

November to April Wet Season

  • The scenery is green and fresh – this is called the ‘emerald season’
  • There are few tourists around and rates are low
  • Best birding time as migrants are present
  • Many newborn animals can be seen
  • Wildlife viewing is better in the Dry season
  • Many lodges are closed, and the Busanga area is off-limits
  • Roads are in bad condition, and game drives are more limited
  • It is hot and humid
  • Malaria is a bigger concern than in the Dry season
