Wildlife viewing in Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve) is best from June to October, during the Dry season. Wildlife is easier to spot in the thinning vegetation and animals gather at the Rufiji River and its associated lakes and lagoons. The scenery is lush and green in the Wet season, from November to May, but afternoons can be unbearably hot. Many lodges are closed from April to May.

Spotting animals is easier since they gather around water and there is less vegetation

The main tourist area gets very busy

November to May Wet Season

The scenery is beautiful and green
It is low season from March to May and prices might be discounted
Excellent bird watching with migratory birds present from November to April
Some game-drive tracks become muddy and hard to travel on
Wildlife viewing is not as good as during the Dry season
Most lodges close from April to May
It is very hot and humid
