Robin was very good!
This was the first safari tour of our lives. We found the program we wanted through Safaribookings.com and chose the 3-night, 4-day Masai Mara and Nakuru tour provided by Jocky Tours, as it seemed like the right fit for us. Up to this point, everything was part of a plan that anyone could make.
However, from the moment we met our guide, Robin, on the first day and entered the plains of the Masai Mara, the quality of our trip depended not on our plan, but on the dedication and ability of our guide.
Our guide did his very best to ensure that we could observe each animal from the best possible position. For example, on the second day, after a full day of game drives, we were on our way back when he received a radio call. He immediately turned the vehicle around and drove back into the plains. Thanks to that decision, we were able to see a pregnant cheetah resting in the shade right before our eyes.
At that moment, we were all quite tired, and no one would have complained if we had simply returned to the hotel. But our guide, Robin, went the extra mile to enrich our experience.
We sincerely thank him for his dedication and effort.

Safari in an African way
In November 2025, my daughter and I decided to do a safari in Uganda, mainly to visist the gorilla's and chimps. We inquired several safari companies in Uganda. Finally, we decided to chose Riso Gorilla Safaris. With a little doubt as there were no reviews of this company but the contact with the owner felt good. While other companies sent me a detailed itinerary, I had to propose a contract myself. When I did a first payment, the owner replied that he had reveived it, which felt good to hear. But 6 weeks before we left, I tried to contact the company (via Whatsapp and email) but did not succeed for several weeks which made me worried. Finally I got a reply saying that he was in Tanzania and had no internet.
The day before the start of our 13-day safari I reveived a message of the owner that he was at the airport in Entebbe to welcome us. He was a day too early ?? The next day, we arrived and Eric our guide/driver welcomed us an drove us to the hotel. The next day, our safari started with a classical tour : Murchison Falls, Kibale forest, Queen Elizabeth, Bwindi, Lake Mburo and back to Entebbe.
Following things happened during the tour :
-The vehicule was not maintained. The back door could not be opened for several days. There were also 2 times mechanical problems when we wanted to leave the lodge : one time it was the battery which needed to be replaced, another time it was not told to us what the problem was.
This second time we had a walking safari planned and the guide arranged another car so that we could still go.
-We had agreed and paid for a private boat trip to Murchison Falls but when we arrived there, it was not foreseen. After contacting the owner, he told us that he had forgotten to book it.
-In Queen Elizabeth it was foreseen to have 2 different lodges : Kasenyi and Enjojo. When we stayed in the first lodge, our guide told us that we had to stay in the first as the second one was in renovation and we could not go there. A few hours later he proposed to go to another lodge, Topi lodge, where we finally went.
All these things were finally solved but it annoyed us.
During the tour, we saw the different animals, except the leopard.
For the gorilla's we went to Ruhija and after a difficult walk of 40 minutes, we met the gorilla's. What annoyed us for the gorilla trekkng were the many tips we had to pay . The permit costs 800 usd per person : ok. But the tips are too much : a dancing group at the briefing, the trackers, the ranger, the security guys. And finally we had to pay 40.000 ugx for gloves we rented. I wonder what the 800 usd permit is used for.
We found the best activities :
-chimps
-gorilla's
-boat trip Kizenga channel : book a private one
Did we get value for money : probably yes. The price we paid for the safari was one of the lowest we received from the different offers.
Would I go again with this company : probably not.

Matt showed great flexibility meeting our specific needs, creating a perfect Safari for us
Jambo Albert and Matt,
After a few hours of sleep in our own beds I felt it important to express our appreciation right away. We left Nairobi at 3 am and arrived the “same day”, June 29th, in Phoenix AZ around midnight, via Istanbul and JFK. That was a 31 hour journey (including the 10 extra hours of time zones we traveled through), but it was all well worth it.
Ellen and I both enjoyed a spectacular vacation, where your company's terrific guides of Joseph, Amos and George, every day, brought us memorable, visual, unique, masterpieces of Kenya and Tanzania wildlife, in their natural setting. Each guide was outstanding, patiently waiting as I snapped great images or accompanying videos of Africa’s animal habitats along the way. As we view these experiences down the way, they will be gentle reminders of the wonders we shared with each other during our Safari and the bonds we made over the fortnight stretch with these three marvelous individuals.
We both loved every moment. Ellen’s joy and exuberant daily was so important to me. Before traveling to Kenya and Tanzania she was apprehensive; fearful of high temperatures, sleeping too close to the ground and bugs, in “tents’, but finding the luxurious camp sites and hotels to be some of the finest establishments we have ever stayed in during 50 years of travel. The warm greetings and hospitality shown at each location are unmatched.
I personally appreciated the extra effort to ferry the supplies needed for Ellen’s medical needs. It has been critical that we both live life to its fullest over the last 6 years of Ellen’s cancer treatment. She came through it all with flying colors.
Please pass on our very best to all the company's employees, who helped make this Safari happen, particularly with the last minute changes, due to the ebola outbreak in Uganda. Ellen and I would like you to thank Joseph, Amos and George, especially for their outstanding contribution to our adventure of a lifetime. So, please share this message with each of them.
Finally, we wish your company continued success and we would be delighted to recommend your expertise in masterfully organizing the Safari on our behalf. Each daily detail helped provide a perfect, magnificent and magical vacation.
Yours sincerely,
Ellen and Chris Brant
