The lake is getting deeper and bigger with every passing year, making it more salty and less desirable for flamingoes. Almost half of flamingoes have started going to other nearby lakes, trees in and around the lake are dying. The only positive thing is the population of Rhinos is growing and you can see them early in the morning from close range.

Very green area, with the relatively rare sight of rhinos. The abundant vegetation makes spotting animals a bit harder but very beautiful. Lots of pelicans and flamingos still.

You can watch Rhinos easily, but there are very few flamingos that made this lake famous.
It takes 3 hours drive from Nairobi with paved road.

If you want to do another place in this country other than Masai Mara, this is the best.

Lake Nakuru is a great spot but you're limited to what you can see because the roads don't go very far into the bush. We saw tons of monkeys, rhinos, flamingos, giraffes and other birds. Masai Mara is hard to beat once you've experienced it.

It is very close to town, so not much of a "bush vibe", but there are some nice views of the lake and the surrounding area is attractive. We saw lots of wildlife, though - including rhinos, baboons, cranes, impala, gazelles, LOTS of flamingoes, pelicans, buffalo, etc. Sarova Lionhill Game Lodge is very nice, with beautiful gardens, luxurious cottages, and the best food and drinks we had on the whole trip.

A small park that is well worth the visit.

Lake Nakuru National Park is well worth the visit. While the flocks of flamingos are apparently not what they once were, there were plenty around and seeing that many birds was mesmerizing. We also saw big herds of Rothschild's giraffes (a very beautiful subspecies) as well as an abundance of zebras, buffalo, waterbucks, and gazelles. A few lions, jackals, and hyenas also made appearances. We only saw two hippos. According to our guides that was lucky so this site may be a bit mistaken to say hippos are common in the area. While I am not a hardcore birder, there is plenty for birders to enjoy. We saw guinea fowl, African fish eagles, marbou storks, Egyptian geese, a hooded vulture, lilac-breasted rollers, and plenty of others. If you go stay at the Lake Nakuru Lodge. Baboons roam the grounds, there is a waterhole near the restaurant that attracted warthogs and zebras, and there is a great view of the lake. Bring your binoculars!

Nakuru is more a park than bush. Incredibly beautiful though.
