Pilanesberg Game Reserve is situated in North West province, alongside the well-known Sun City resort complex, about 200km/124mi northwest of Johannesburg.

Johannesburg’s O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB) is where most travelers arrive in South Africa, and no scheduled flights continue from there to Pilanesberg or Sun City. For this reason, most people rent a car in O.R. Tambo and to Pilanesberg, or arrange a private road transfer. Either way, the drive takes up to 3 hours* and is very scenic if you use the route via Hartbeespoort Dam.
