Review about Mgahinga Gorilla National Park by Ross

A great choice for independent travelers as park permits are much easier to obtain than Bwindi and saves you having to buy at a premium from a tour operator. Fewer tourists, a rugged camping spot, and several excellent (but challenging) hikes make Mgahinga a great choice for those looking to go slightly further afield.

Trekking through the forest and getting up close a group of chimps is second only to finding the gorillas for the first time.

Picturesque views, great camping and a perfect layover between seeing chimps and gorillas

As far as traditional, savannah type game parks, QENP is one of Uganda's few options. The park's beauty and open landscape is a nice change from the more typical forests in the south west of the country, however, in many respects - e.g. wildlife and vastness - QENP lags far behind parks in neighbouring Kenya and Tanzania. But if you were looking for the standard safari experience you probably wouldn't be looking at Uganda in the first place!

QENP is definitely worth a visit and it's location between Kibale and Bwindi/Mgahinga make it an ideal place to spend a night between seeing the more impressive chimps and gorillas of the other parks. Because the wildlife is rather sparse in the park, grab a guide from the front gate if you must see the leopards and lions, otherwise do what we did and take a relaxing drive through the many tracks along the craters to enjoy the scenery while searching for the herds of elephants, buffalo and other animals.

As for accommodation, I highly recommend camping inside the park if you have the gear - great views, inexpensive and a nice way to experience the park. Don't worry about breakfast as there is a restaurant about 5 minutes from the campsite with an amazing view over the lake.

Considering this isn't Uganda's forte, the park offers some surprising moments and picturesque views. As long as you're not expecting the Maasai Mara, it will add to your experience of the country.

Speke Uganda is an excellent tour operator. Very professional from the very beginning of the booking, an excellent guide who did everything to make our 10 days in Uganda very special days and a perfect tour organization (car, lodges, tours etc.). We can recommend Speke wholeheartedly.

Excellent Safari
5/5

We booked with Karibu Safaris In Kenya, they fetched us at the Arusha Impala Hotel, it was a 3 hour drive, very pleasant. Border crossing was quick and there were no problems. We went to sentrim camp in Amboseli, where we received a warm welcome. We saw elephants up-close and personal, leopards, cheetah and most amazing Lions and lots of wildlife. We had a wonderful buffet lunch at the camp and then went for another afternoon viewing and next morning had game drive and dropped at the JKIA Airport in Nairobi. Excellent service. Thank you!!!!

Dream safari honeymoon!
5/5

From the first interaction with Megan and the Discover Africa team I knew I could trust them with my honeymoon plans. Communication was fantastic with all my requests and changes quickly addressed. They also provided great advice on accomadation and things to do. The trip itself was once in a life time and something my wife and I will never forget. Everything was perfectly organized allowing me to relax and enjoy our special time together. I would definitely recommend discovering Africa with Discover Africa!

A trip that was easy to organise and hard to forget.

We visited Madikwe and Madagascar for our honeymoon in 2014. It was a dream trip that was made possible by Discover Africa. The best part of their service was the ease with which it was handled. Their website is very clear and full of options and the consultants are prompt in their response. I usually book various parts of my holidays through separate operators because I feel I can mix n match as I please but booking the entire trip through Discover Africa left me feeling like I was in good hands and making the right choices. Madikwe and Madagascar were both fantastic destinations that I can recommend. We saw big 5 on our first day!

Great value for money
5/5

We had a wonderful time on this safari. Honestly, I think 4 days and 3 nights are all you need. We had a great guide who found many animals for us, including the leopard and black and white rhinos. We did the Masa Mari and Lake Nakura trips. BTW, make sure you do the village visit in Masa Mari -- quite an experience.

3 day Maasai Mara safari
5/5

We did a 3 day safari just last month, and had a great time. We planned everything through Beacon Safaris.
The airport pick up and drop off, the first day excursions and the safari went off without a hitch.
Robert was extremely helpful in suggesting places to visit and arranging transportation and entry for everywhere we went during our time in Nairobi.
Fred, our safari driver was very knowledgeable and did a great job finding the BIg 5 for us in just one day.
The hotel ( the Sopa Lodge) was recommended by Robert and was excellent. Food was great, staff were great and the hotel was exactly what I was hoping for.
I have already recommended Beacon to a friend who is planning a safari and would highly recommend them to anyone.
