4 days/ 3 nights safari
4/5

My mom and me went in a 4 days/ 3 nights safari to celebrate her 60th birthday. We went to lake Nakuru and stayed a night there, and then two nights in Maasai Mara.

The agenda for our trip was exactly what we wanted and our guide was outstanding. However, we had paid for a “comfort” room in Maasai Mara ($420 per person each night) and when we got to our hotel (Azure Mara Haven) they told us Spirit of Kenya had only reserved a budget tent for us. I talked with employees of Spirit of Kenya but they only solved the problem until the next day when we had already gone over a hard and cold night in the tent. Second day fortunately we were upgraded to a room like the one we had paid for. Despite asking them for a refund or a compensation for their mistake on the first night, I did not get a positive reply and was just ignored by their employees.

Hope this doesn’t happen to other people traveling with Spirit of Kenya and that you stress out that they should make the hotel reservations for what you are asking and the value you are paying.

It is very good but if I am evaluating it right after Chobe I have to give 5 stars to Chobe and 4 to okavango.

About: Kenya
Kenya: must-see country for wildlife lovers
Overall rating
4/5

The wildlife in Kenya is second to none. Especially recommended the parks of Samburu and of course Masai Mara.
Just a small disappointment: very few flamingos in Lake Nakuru. The sunsets are beautiful, as in many places in Africa.
Maximum punctuation for our guide Eric, Beacon Safaris, not only for his ability to take us to the best points to see wildlife, but also for his experience, ability to solve problems and his respect and consideration for animal life.

Prompt response and very helpful in trying situations
4/5

Communication was top notch. The service provided is very good and price for the total safari was very reasonable. Tour manager Erastus is very friendly and provided a lot of information during the briefing session the day before the tour began to prep us. The guide/driver George is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the park and had very good conversations with my family. The car broke down during the drive to the park and both Erastus and George did their best to make the trip go without a hitch by arranging our journey without any trouble. Overall Top Cream is a very good operator who puts customer service at the forefront. Only thing that they could have provided a better/newer vehicle and the balloon company they used was not up to the expectations.

It was a great safari tour. They really tried to accommodate all my requests and do their best
4/5

I did 13 days safari tour in Kenya and Tanzania with Exciting Africa Holidays in August 2019 and I loved the experience. The communication was easy and Albert was always responsive from start to end of my trip. They tried to accommodate most of my requests and solve issues coming up. I only would suggest to better look into booking Tanzania safari through Tanzanian operators as an option. Although the border crossing and all the movements in between countries are easier with one operator and EAH really made it smooth for me, they couldn't totally control Tanzanian operator and there were a couple of misunderstandings. But I would say they have done their best to manage it. I recommend this company as they are reliable and responsive and worked hard to make this an amazing and beautiful experience. My tour guide Gibson was very knowledgable and really fun and I have a great time. Thank you EAH staff for this! Veronika

Safari by road to 3 different tented camps. Wonderful landscape & wildlife & good driver/guide.
4/5

I travelled with my 18 years old nephew and we both had a great time. Our guide Felix, was always on time, helpful and informative. He was also a good driver and made us feel safe. The general road condition in Kenya is not good and in parts really bad but we saw a lot of local life and beautiful landscape because we travelled by road. We went first to Ol Pejeta conservancy and the Sweetwater camp. It is located on the equator around 1800 meters above sea level. The conservancy is known for their rhinos but we also saw many other animals including elephants, lion and jackal. We also visited the chimpansee sanctuary and heard about the work they do. Thereafter we went to Lake Nakuru and the Flamingo Hill camp. We drove through lush and green landscape and the area around the lake itself is beautiful. Again we saw many animals including rhinos, buffalo, some flamingos and Vervet monkeys. The last camp was in Mara, the Loyk Mara camp. The savanna was teeming with life and we saw so many different animals, big herds of wildebeest, topis, zebras, buffalos and other species. Elephants, hippo, a pride of lions, a big male leopard, cheetah, hyenas and more. It might have been good to have had a 4x4 as a safari vehicle because we got stuck a few times. On our way back to Nairobi we visited a traditional Masai village. We spent an interesting hour with them and was shown around by a young Masai warrior who spoke English. Our last day in Nairobi we were picked up by a driver and taken to the Giraffe center, David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage and the Karen Blixen museum before being driven to the airport. All those places were worth a visit and we also had a nice lunch in the Karen Blixen Coffee Garden. All the camps we visited during our safari were really nice and also quite small with Loyk Mara as the smallest, and maybe also our favourite. In Nairobi we stayed at Eka hotel which can be recommended if you are staying a night in Nairobi at each end of your safari, as it is located on the road to the airport and have all the facilities you'll need. We also used their car service one evening and went to Carnavore for dinner which was a fun experience. We ate a lot of really good food during our stay in Kenya and the service was great everywhere. All in all we had a wonderful time and can highly recommend both visiting Kenya and using Classic Journeys to help organise the trip.

Very Good
4/5

After our original tour operator vanished all of a sudden just two days before the Start, we made a scramble to salvage the tour and we got the reference of Splendor Holidays. We were quite assured once we talked to Lucy (the owner of the Company), yet we were not certain how it will turn out. But the moment we landed in Nairobi, Lucy was there to receive us and take us to respective places in Kenya all the time. She was always available over phone or in person whenever necessary. We must also admit that she quoted us quite reasonable despite being aware that we are in distress to salvage the program.
As she has to fall back on the pre-booked hotels/lodges/camps (booked by the previous operator) due to shortage of time, some of the accommodation in Kenya (Kimana tented camp at Amboseli) was not quite to our expectations.
Her team of drivers were fabulous, quite knowledgeable about safari terrain & wildlife, and they guided us throughout the trip.
Kenyan and Tanzanian people in general are very warm, honest and welcoming. Someone of us got back his lost wallet, someone got back her USD Cash tied in a handkerchief & kept under the pillow even after one hour of hotel check-out. In all the places, The staff listened to all our trivial grievances with utmost courtesy & calmness; and they arranged whatever we asked for & they could.
Masai Mara and Serengeti are the ultimate destination for wildlife safari, we saw plenty of big Five and a landscape never to forget.
We will say that one can go ahead with Splendor Holidays and will never regret.
Lucy is one of the best tour operators that we have seen so far.
