An experience of a lifetime
5/5

Having never been to Africa let alone a safari we did not have any idea of which company we would use. Having done a little online research we opted for “Spirt of Kenya”. They offer totally flexible private safaris where from the hotel in Nairobi your Driver and tour guide transports you door to door for the entire journey.

From the very beginning where we emailed “Spirit of Kenya” Tiago quickly sorted an initial itinerary from our requirements. We wanted to see lots of wildlife and see part of the great animal migration in the Masai mara from a hot air ballon. We were offered a good choice of levels of accommodation. We upgraded on a few where we would be staying for more than 1 night and would highly recommend “ The Sarova Salt lick Lodge” in Tsavo West , “Ol Tukai Lodge” in Amboseli and “Entim private camp” in the Masai Mara ( where you stay under canvass in an unfenced encampment ). All of the accommodation was made better by the excellent friendly staff who could not do enough... Read more to ensure your stay was comfortable.
The hot air ballon experience was well worth the extra cost. You float above the landscape for an hour or so getting a great views of the wildlife then after landing a champagne breakfast set up in the bush.

We don’t eat meat but we need not have had any concerns about the choices of food available for breakfast, lunch or evening dinner . Some of our accommodation choices offered self service buffet others “a la carte” . There was always plenty of fresh fruit , salad veg & fish on offer. At the Entim private camp the chef actually came out to talk us about what we would eat. It’s all the more amazing when you consider most of the camps are a long way from anywhere along some rough tracks.

You have to be up early most mornings but it’s worth seeing sunrise over the vast landscapes. If you are too early for breakfast there is always good coffee and cake to get you started.

Our driver Simon is a very experienced guide and we are convinced has superpower eye site. He could spot a camouflaged animal at considerable distances whilst driving . We would only find it after we had stopped and with binoculars in hand. His knowledge of the wildlife was incredible - birds, plants snakes included. He easily managed to navigate in the parks along tracks , across rivers , with no signs anywhere. There are some long drives along tarmac highways and out of park dirt tracks where you get to see some of the rural aspects of Kenya including interesting chats with Simon on the politics of the country which to us is all part of the experience.

We would not hesitate in recommending “Spirit of Kenya” if you are looking for an experience of a lifetime.

Great customer service from Bison safaris. Excellent communication while organising the trip, thanks to Maggie! We had an excellent driver who knew the land well. Excellent value for money. I would definitely recommend Bison Safaris to anyone travelling to Kenya.

Very helpful. Delivered what they promised
5/5

We had a good experience with them. Oscar was very helpful and accommodated to all our needs.
He personally drove us to and from the start and end of the tour, crossing borders, and it was all a breeze.
We ticked off all animals we wanted to see as well, even a leopard.

Once in a lifetime experience
5/5

Gilbert was our tour guide for the most memorable 10 days of our lives.
Gilbert was an amazing guide, super professional and such a lovely guy and was one of the best drivers we have ever had. We have to navigate some extremely treacherous roads and his handling of the vehicle was outstanding.
His English is also fantastic and his knowledge and experience was second to none. I can’t wait to come back.

Wonderful trip to South Africa and Mozambique, organised by Kathi Simon.
5/5

The whole trip was absolutely seamless! All my drivers were there absolutely on time, and they were all lovely people. Kathi choose a super hotel in Mabuto and a fantastic beach resort at Viancoulos. The driver who took me through the border into Mozambique was from Mabuto, he knew the ropes, and I was through the border in about 30 minutes. I absolutely love Africa and can’t wait to go back!

Amazing experience
4/5

The communication before the trip was borderline bad. I never got a description of what the safari would look like or more details about the company or experience as a whole so I was pretty much betting on the descriptions in this site. I also got really worried because they never asked for my phone number or anything to contact me for pick up except the name of my hotel.
Regardless of the unclear communication at the beginning of the trip the Safari itself was amazing! The lodges where we stayed the first two nights were incredible and very comfortable. Given that I was traveling solo I shared with someone else who was also traveling solo (another girl). The cabin was very spacious, each bed had it’s own very well set mosquito net and we even had a nice shower and toilet inside the lodge with warm water! The food was good, the drives were the best. Our driver was James and he went above and beyond to make our Safari an unforgettable experience. On the first day alone we were able to... Read more spot Lions, Cheetah, elephants and giraffes along other animals. On the second day we say a leopard as well which he mentioned was a rare sight.

Our van broke on the third day on our way back to Lake Nakuru and be speedily arranged for us to be driven by someone else to our lunch area so we wouldn’t waste time while he fixed it.
As promised, he picked us up after lunch and we were back on our way to lake Nakuru. So tip here: there is the possibility to do Naivasha on the way to Nakuru. I think he insisted on it because one of the new passengers had it included in his tour, he didn’t force it on us though. I do not recommend doing Naivasha unless you are into birds a lot. It’s very plain and the boat tour lasts nothing and is pricey (20usd). The main reason we agreed to it was because there is nothing planned for the afternoon of the third day. This was very very lame. We initially thought we would be doing an evening game drive as we had on Masai Mara but apparently the ticket is not good for two days in Nakuru. I would recommend changing the departure time from Masai Mara so that it doesn’t feel like the afternoon is wasted. I would recommend booking with them but definitely think something should be added to the afternoon on the third day for those doing the 4 day safari as it ends up feeling more like a 3 day safari than a 4 day safari.

Big 5 and many more
Overall rating

Our guide Ayoni went above and beyond and we saw the big 5 in our first few hours of the game drive, this included the black rhino which had not been spotted for a while by anyone. Overall amazing experience and plenty of wildlife to see.

Very familiar staff and perfect organization
5/5

Motto Tours organized for my family a very special trip to Kenia. They were really concerned about our wellness and did their best so the trip were perfect. We had a spanish speaking guide and a driver just for the family and they were really kind (specially with the kids) and proffesional. Good means of transport, acommodations and good price for the whole trip. They solved in a satisfactory way all the little problems that came across the trip.
I would hardly recommend to travel with Motto Tours.
