Between the vast savannas teeming with African wildlife and the vibrant energy of Nairobi, this journey through Kenya was a truly memorable experience. From the thrill of the safari to the urban discoveries of the capital, this trip beautifully blended breathtaking nature with rich cultural encounters.
I was deeply touched by the warm welcome and outstanding hospitality throughout the different parks. Having an experienced and dedicated guide and driver available at all times made every moment seamless and special.
A heartfelt thank you to Chris for making this adventure truly unforgettable.

Amboseli Wildlife Park

We were very pleased with the support we received from Esther of Cherish Safaris Kenya when making our booking for the three day, two night safari to Amboseli National Park. Francis met us as arranged at the Namunga Border crossing (between Kenya and Tanzania) and then drove us through the Park for a couple of hours wildlife viewing.
There were eight of us and the one Toyota safari vehicle was cramped, and we should have booked two vehicles and drivers.
The Sopa lodge in Amboseli was great, the rooms were comfortable, the staff very friendly and helpful and the choice and quality of food at the restaurant for breakfast and dinner were excellent, as were the facilities such as the pool, the massage spa, the Hemingway bar and indoor and outdoor bar areas, and gardens.
We had been travelling by road in Southern and Eastern African countries for four weeks and had already been to a number of large wildlife parks, and I’d suggest the wildlife viewing in Amboseli was much
Read more sparser than in Tanzania, and the Serengeti and I think we would have been happier had we travelled further North in Kenya to the Masai Mara National Park. Maybe next time.
The Amboseli NP suited our travel arrangements as we had four days to fill in between leaving the Rift valley in Tanzania and flying from Nairobi to Mauritius. We had already been spoilt for Wildlife and so for our needs the Cherish Safari was perfect.
After leaving Amboseli, Esther had booked us a night’s accommodation in the Panafric Hotel in Nairobi which was perfect for our last night before leaving Kenya Thank you Esther and Francis.

Safari was great! I am glad I did this in the low season! The lodge I stayed in was disapointing, very old, no real place to sit down, shaggy restaurant m

We experienced the best and worst of what Kenya has to offer

We visited Kenya for roughly two weeks in March, 2026. We were on a fantastic safari for seven days which brought us to Amboseli, Lake Naivasha, Lake Nakuru, Hells Gate and Masai Mara Parks/Preserves. The lodging, all Sopa Lodges, was superb as was the dining. Our tour company, Marurumi Safaris was excellent - James and Ivy were personable, knowledgeable and a joy to be with. Most of all the wildlife was unbelievable on all standpoints; accessibility, visibility and the abundance of species.
Outside of the Safari we spent several days in Nairobi was well as visiting Oyugis and Kisumu in western Kenya. Our short visit to downtown Nairobi on day one was marred by being confronted with blatant government corruption. I unknowingly took a single cell phone photo of the parliament building from across a four lane street. I was immediately approached by two guards armed with automatic weapons and threatened with jail and a fine for taking the photo; my phone was also confiscated.
Read more Luckily, I was accompanied by a Kenyan citizen who knew that what the guards really wanted was a bribe. It took roughly 60 USD to get my phone back.
Corruption and open bribery also reared its ugly head at the parks. It was clear that bribes needed to be paid to park officials as park in addition to the official entry fees. It was also clear that the official entry fees are not used to help improve the parks.
Traveling around the country was great; the scenic beauty of the rural countryside, tea plantations and sunsets over Lake Victoria were awesome. But, the lack of infrastructure, pollution and horrendous traffic detracted from the overall beauty.

In the one day / night we stayed we managed a 4 hour game drive at the Nairobi National Park. Perfect for a 4 hour game drive. Company that organised it were good, good value for money and loved our driver, he was great.

Marvelous wildlife, terrible slums and trash everywhere

We visited 3 national parks - Masai Mara, Nakuru and Amboseli. It was a 6-day safari, well organised, jeep travel. The driver was also our guide and Jackson was a very experienced and knowledgeable guy. The thing which we did not take into account in advance was that travel distances are quite big and rather tiresome. Inside the national parks roads are dirty (red all-sticking dust) and very uneven, while the riding lasts 6 to 7 hours. Between the parks distances are 200-300 km or more, some parts of these also on dirty roads. In 2 words - lots of jeep riding. This, plus early wake-ups (5:30 am) to catch the rhythm of the animals equals to tiredness. People should be prepared for this - we were not, which was our fault only. Nothing to do with the guide and the company. For those seeking to observe lots of birds and some animals, I'd suggest going to Nakuru only; for elephants - Amboseli is the perfect place.
We slept in so called "budget" accommodations - a hotel
Read more in Nakuru and tents in the other 2 parks. Tents were spacious, something like 30 sq.m. with private toilet and a shower stand, comfortable beds, etc. Mosquitos are endless and invisible, be prepared. The food was basic but tasty, only lunch boxes were rather boring - every day there was 1/4 of fried chicken. In general - great experience, fascinating wildlife, everybody pushes you to give away some money ... walking wallets syndrome.

Kenya is a country with very beautiful nature. You should definitely visit one of the national parks and have a beach holiday at Diani Beach.
