Incredible first Safari experience - African Big Five - 3 Days in Serengeti, 1 Day in Ngorongoro
Okay, where do I start? This was one of the best experiences of our lives. The journey starts 3 months earlier when I got in touch with Kelvin from Meru Slopes, he helped a lot in planning this trip and kept in touch throughout our visa process (which in itself was a journey since Tanzania makes it difficult for Pakistani travelers to enter the country).
I discussed our itinerary with him a lot, shuffled the dates, and our destinations. We were supposed to go on a 4 day Safari to Tarangire(1), Serengeti(2) and Ngorongoro(1), but I changed it to 3 days in Serengeti and 1 day in Ngorongoro and I'm so glad I did this. An extra day in Serengeti was so much worth it.
Arriving in Kilimanjaro, we were picked up by our driver on time, Peus(hope I'm spelling it right) was great. He made amazing conversation and gave us a lot of information about Arusha and Tanzania in general. We really liked him and even requested Kelvin that Peus drives us back after the safari.
Since we took a rest day in Arusha before our safari, we were visited by Kelvin and Max (our guide), who briefed us about our safari and if we had any questions. Local Sim cards were also arranged for us with 4GB of internet, which lasted us our whole trip even after the safari.
Day 1: We started our journey around 6:30am and drove all the way to Serengeti through Ngorongoro. Around 1:30pm after lunch at Naabi gate, we started our afternoon game drive, man, what a day it was. We saw a huge pride of lions sleeping in the rocks, then we saw a huge herd of Cape Buffaloes, Wildebeest, then a Cheetah eating a freshly killed Gazelle. Then we saw another Cheetah up close a few miles away. Then a small herd of Elephants, and finally at the end of our game drive, Max found us a Leopard. Coming from Pakistan, where we have hiked a lot in the mountains and forests, I had never seen a Leopard, but this wish was fulfilled finally in Africa. Thanks to Max. We arrived at our accommodation in Central Serengeti, Heritage Luxury Camp which was a place out of heaven. We slept in the sounds of Hyenas and Lions and it really added to the thrill.
Day 2: We started our day with a early morning game drive, and saw lots of animals. Max managed to locate a huge pride of Lions for us and we spent a lot of time just driving through the endless plains of Serengeti, searching for animals. It was just amazing. We saw Hippos, Crocodiles, Giraffes, Zebras, Ostrich, Pumbas (Warthog), A cheetah upclose, a herd of Elephants bathing in mud and water. Highlight of the day was seeing a newborn Giraffe baby with his mother. I also have to mention here how Max was so helpful when I got sick during the game drive (the usual stomach problems when you travel) and drove us to the tourist point where I spent some time until I felt better.
Day 3: Last day in Serengeti, we started early and drove through plains of Serengeti in search of a Leopard, but spotted a lot of other animals. Lions, Elephants, Giraffes, Gazelles, different Antelopes, Baboons, Hippos, Hyenas, Ostrich, and in our final hour when we were on our way out of Serengeti, Max suddenly took a turn back and drove us to a spot where we looked on our left and to our disbelief, we saw a Black Rhino.
What a day, I never expected it but we completed our African Big Five on our third day in Serengeti. All thanks to our wonderful guide, Max.
After that, we drove to Ngorongoro, and stayed the night in Embalakai Camp, and this was a beautiful place. Enjoyed the stay there and then next morning at around 6am we drove to the Crater.
We were first in the crater and saw so much activity at that hour. Saw Lions, Elephants, Hippos, Wildebeest, and so many other animals. Max took us to far corners of the crater and made sure we had a great experience. We had our breakfast near a Hippo pool and then continued our game drive searching for different animals. All in all, it was an unbelievable experience.
In the afternoon, we started driving back to Arusha where Meru Slopes had arranged for us a complimentary stay at one of the hotels in the city. The safari had come to an end and we still couldn't come out of what we had experienced these past 4 days.
Thank you to everyone at Meru Slopes for giving us one of the best experiences of our lives. Special thanks to Max for being a wonderful companion on our journey. It was like he was a friend or family for us. We wish the whole team best of luck and we hope people of Tanzania keep protecting the wonderful places and animals who call it home. Best wishes from two wanderers from Pakistan.
The best safari experience we could ever imagine
From the very beginning, the management and communication with Meru Slopes were excellent. Kelvin, who was in charge of all the organization, was always kind, attentive, and professional, making everything during the booking process smooth and easy. We booked a private mid-range safari, and it was the best decision we could have made , everything was perfectly planned and exceeded our expectations.
The lodges chosen were extraordinary, with lovely staff everywhere who treated us with so much kindness and care. The accommodation was great, very comfortable and well located, and the food was excellent throughout the trip.
During the safari, our guide Samuel was simply outstanding. He constantly made sure we were comfortable, safe, and enjoying every single moment. Thanks to him, our safari was an absolute success and an unforgettable experience.
We truly recommend Meru Slopes if you want to live a genuine, well-organized and memorable safari adventure in Tanzania!

Flexible and relaible
We had a great time with Meru Slopes in Tanzania, Gift Tembo as a contact person was very patient and flexible with our needs and agenda. We took a 4 night long safari visiting Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngoro hoping to see the big 5! Our guide Jacob did everything to fulfill our dream and we have managed to see many elephants, countless lions, 3 leopards, 2 cheetas and even 2 Rhinos. He was telling us all the information we needed with a touch of good humor. The hotels we stayed at were also nice and their staff was welcoming. If I have to say some negative maybe skip the beer and wine package if you dont want to drink it during the safari as it is rare to have a bathroom of course. Materuni waterfall is also a must have after you finished with the safari.
Anyway, to sum up: it was a lifelong experience with a statisfaction with Meru Slopes much better than expected, and would recommend Jacob to be your guide, just ask for him if you book.

Amazing
Me and my partner had an incredible time on our tour, the chef Adoola and food was 10/10 with great hot breakfast, lunch and dinner. The 2 other girls in our group were lovely and was lucky to only have a group of 4 altogether so didn’t feel crowded atall. our tour guide Lobulu was so knowledgeable and made huge efforts to try get us to see all the animals. We felt very safe in his hands on the road and around the animals. So many great perks for the price such as free airport transfers, free village tour, they even let us check in at 3am and stay an extra night for free. The communication from Kelvin was amazing and everything was just so smooth and enjoyable. I will attach photos of our 10/10 experience. Massively recommend meru slopes and honestly believe this is the best one for the price! Other tours that were more expensive didn’t have perks we had such as the good hot food we had at lunches while others ate sandwhiches. All the other tours eat in the same place, drive and see the same things.

Meru Slopes was professional, great value for money, and I have nothing negative to say!
Brilliant tour, we joined the group 6 day budget camping safari. We had 4 people in our car, which meant that we had plenty of space to move around and view the wildlife, plus the chef (Adula) and guide (Labulu) who were both incredible and I would highly recommend! The Meru slopes team were enthusiastic and ensured that we saw every animal as best as possible.
The tour was great value for money, accommodation was comfortable, airport transfer was smooth, and overall wildlife viewing exceeded my expectations! I Would definitely recommend Meru slopes.

Amazing experience
Our guide, Stanley, was incredibly knowledgable about wildlife and a skilled driver. He did a great job of keeping us away from other vehicles as much as possible so we could enjoy the bush, whilst still giving us some unforgettable wildlife sightings. Stanley was great at changing the plan if we weren't finding many species and was able to answer all of our questions and cater to our requests also. Rashid was a great cook and we had many delicious meals. We'd definitley recommend you request Stanley and Rashid if possible! We also had a lovely walk on Kilimanjaro on our last day.
Some of the communications prior to the trip seemed very casual - but this is just the African way and in no way a reflection of any unprofessionalism of the part of the guides, cooks, or tour company.
Neru was knowledgeable, friendly and such a pleasure to have as our guide.
We had an incredible time on our safari with Meru Slopes. It was a smooth experience from the moment we booked.
We had Shadrack as our coordinator - very friendly, wanted us to have fun, always responded quickly whenever we had questions.
We had Neru as our guide - cannot fault him, he was amazing. So knowledgeable and so kind.
We had Buga as our chef - amazing food and so much of it! Also so friendly. We were so grateful.
We definitely believe we got our value for money, the best service, we always felt informed and safe.
Thank you Meru Slopes and the amazing team who put it together.

The Ultimate Northern Tanzania Safari Experience
An unforgettable safari adventure from start in Arusha to finish. Kelvin from Meru Slopes worked with the two of us to tailor the perfect itinerary - which we did! Included were Tarangire NP, Serengeti NP (where we did a balloon ride with Miracle Experience - highly recommended), Ngorongoro Crater and Lakes Natron & Manyara.
We saw many different wild animals, had comfortable accommodation (including luxury tents) had lots of great buffet meals, all included in our package. We really enjoyed our daily packed picnic lunches and travel in our great safari 4x4 Landcruiser! Our driver, Godfrey Kito-Mary, was very obliging and very knowledgeable, and his driving four-wheel driving skills were very impressive indeed.
Meru Slopes were very professional and really know their stuff. Can't recommend them highly enough.

Unforgettable Trip
Abraham was the best guide we could have wished for! Thanks to him, we saw all of the Big Five — he was incredibly attentive and even went the extra mile to find a leopard for us.
Our cook was also amazing, preparing absolutely delicious meals for us every morning, afternoon, and evening.
All in all, we couldn’t have asked for a better experience or a more caring team.
A huge thank you to everyone who made this trip unforgettable!
