3.5 Stars...Hard to say TBH
Michael from the tour company on whatsapp was helpful, but definitely overcharged me on airport pickup - $35 from JRO to Moshi. I was on a 3D2N group tour with guide Ali, and a chef, and we stayed at Fanaka Lodge. Guide Ali didn't do an introduction at the start, no welcome, no nothing, and I learned his name from other members. While we could tell Ali was good at what he does, his attitude was negative 70% of the trip, and a couple times he tried to hype himself up by making a corny joke about how heavy his jeep was after we ate our lunch. I was traveling solo so I was riding shotgun the whole three days and had to take in 90% of his dismissive comments/attitude towards me and some members of our group.
As for the Chef! Our interactions were limited since we only saw him at the lodge, but many of us could tell he's got a big ego. One evening, he complained how everyone arrived late at dinner but he never told anyone the start time. You get the gist, communication wasn't lacking in general. I once asked the chef for more green beans in our veggie stew for the next day's lunch. And guess what, we got the least amount of green beans out of all the days. I deeply regret giving him a $20 tip. My take after this trip is, do NOT feel obligated to tip anyone, if the service doesn't merit it, despite what all websites suggest.
The safari tours are pretty well established in Moshi/Arusha, most tour companies with 3.5 stars or above, if you are on a budget, are fine. Since most tour companies rely on freelance guides & chefs, your experience will come down to luck. Wishing all future travelers in being paired with great staff!

Absolutely amazing!
From the very beginning, their team was incredibly responsive — answering all our questions quickly and thoroughly, which gave us the confidence to book with them. That level of care continued throughout the entire trip.
Oscar and Silence took fantastic care of us during our time in Zimbabwe and Botswana, always checking in to make sure we were comfortable, happy, and making the most of every moment. Their attention to detail and warm hospitality truly made the trip unforgettable.
In the final part of our journey, Francis stepped in and was just as wonderful — ensuring every aspect ran smoothly, from the transport to the food. You could really feel that the whole team is passionate about what they do.
We wholeheartedly recommend Zambezi Expedition Travel and Tours to anyone looking for a unique and well-organized adventure in Southern Africa. You’ll be in great hands!

The operator is professional and the guide chosen for us was very professional.
This Safari experience completely exceeded our expectations.
Especially thanks to our guide, Halifa, who has over 20 years of Safari experience. He always managed to spot lions and cheetahs before anyone else, giving us precious moments of exclusive encounters with wildlife up close.
While ordinary visitors like us could only observe animals with the naked eye, Halifa’s sharp instincts allowed him to tell when predators like lions were nearby—just by watching the behavior of grazing animals in the distance. He knew the habits of every creature on the savanna and patiently explained them to us throughout the journey. He even opened his guidebook to show us detailed information about the animals, which made our Safari experience even more enjoyable and educational.
I still remember standing on the grasslands, gazing at the wildebeests in the distance, dancing together, and hearing Halifa tell us that happiness is the most important thing — we should live in the moment. His positivity and wisdom deeply moved us and gave our Safari a more meaningful and memorable touch.
We are truly grateful for this journey.

Lucky enough to choose Jungleroam
strongly recommend Joseph and Jungleroam to anyone who wants to have safari, especially those hesitant to have the very first experience like me. I randomly saw someone posted her experience of having Jungleroam as her organiser for safari (budget). I emailed them months before I decided to go, and their offer was good. Later I decided to choose safari (comfort) when I booked my flight with a friend, which proves to be a smart choice. Getting up early to chase after animal is very exhausting, the lodges we stayed were good and close to the parks (Jambo Mara/Sarova Woodlands/Amboseli sopa). BTW, I love the pork ribs in Sarova Woodlands. Our guide Joseph has been doing this in Masai Mara for ten years; his expertise helped him find animals and build bonds with other guides, which is important for info sharing. He show us the big five, ugly five and lots of lots of fantastic animals in Kenya and also some local culture; so the 6-day safari became fantastic memories for me and my friend. Definitely recommend!

The service is both considerate and professional.
First of all, the guide Pius was very professional and meticulous. During the 7-day trip, he showed us all the animals and explained a lot of animal knowledge and the local customs of Tanzania to us. The overall itinerary was very reasonable and we were all very happy. Secondly, the customer service Jeremiah responded very quickly, basically answering all our questions and providing many suggestions for our trip. Finally, we would like to thank the Serengti smile for providing such an amazing trip for us.

Serengeti Smile offered excellent communication and professional guide, making our safari enjoyable.
Our 7-day safari with Pius was truly unforgettable. From Arusha to Tarangire, through the Central and Northern Serengeti, and finally to Ngorongoro, every day was filled with incredible experiences. Pius was always polite, graceful, and attentive to what we hoped to see. Thanks to his sharp eyes and patience, we spotted all of the Big Five—including the rare black rhino! He even found us a leopard family and guided us to witness the breathtaking wildebeest river crossing. We also saw a cheetah family from a distance, which was still amazing to witness.
Pius made sure everything went smoothly and that we felt comfortable and cared for throughout the journey. His professionalism, kindness, and genuine love for nature made the trip perfect from start to finish. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide—thank you, Pius, for giving us memories we’ll cherish forever.

Meijo Safaris guide Abdul - he made us feel the heartbeat of Africa
If I had to thank one person for this trip, it wouldn't be for the animals I saw, but for meeting Abdul. He made me understand that a true guide opens more than just paths through the wilderness; they open doors to emotions and connections.
Before meeting Abdul, Africa to me was nothing more than the magnificent scenes in "Animal World," the "Big Five" waiting to be checked off a checklist. After meeting him, Africa became a living being with warmth, a breath of life, a heartbeat. This transformation stems from the way Abdul views this land—not the gaze of an employee looking at their workplace, but the deep affection of a child looking back at their mother's home.
I'll never forget that evening. As our car quietly parked near a herd of elephants, Abdul, instead of rushing into statistics, said in a near-whisper, "Look at that baby elephant, cuddling close to its mother. In Africa, family is everything." In that moment, I saw more than just "a herd of elephants," but the warm daily life of a family. The golden sunset shone upon them, and the air was filled with dust and tranquility. Abdul's silence was more powerful than any words. He gave us space to feel, to let that sacred tranquility reach our hearts. My eyes suddenly welled up, for I had touched the soul of this land, and Abdul was that gentle guide.
He had a strange magic that could transform a "sightseeing" into a "heart-to-heart." When he pointed to a lone male buffalo and whispered that it might have left the herd due to old age, his tone was free of judgment, only of deep understanding. In his eyes, each animal wasn't just a symbol, but an individual with a story to tell. He taught us to "observe" with respect and empathy, rather than "conquer" with a curiosity-driven mindset.
What touched me most was his sincerity, which went beyond service. One day, I was a little tired from a long, bumpy ride, and Abdul keenly noticed. He didn't point it out. Instead, he stopped the car on a breathtakingly beautiful hill, poured us some hot tea, and, gazing into the distance, said, "Here, sometimes doing nothing, just breathing, is the best safari." At that moment, he ceased to be a knowledgeable expert and became a fellow traveler, sharing his most intimate love for this land.
At farewell, Abdul shook our hands and said with a smile, "Now, you too have a friend in Africa." These words are more precious than any official thank-you.
So, if you ask me how Abdul was as a guide, I won't start by telling you how many cheetahs or lion prides he found. I'll tell you that he redefined my approach to nature. He gave us a journey to experience with our hearts, not just our eyes. He left us with more than just the thousands of photos in our cameras, but a heart warmed and stirred by the African sunset, the dust, and the vitality of life.
