Uganda is an emerging tourist destination compared to its neighbours. Independent travel is definitely more possible here compared to the other locations and it is much cheaper. If you're going on safari, choose your company and accommodation wisely, it's a real mixed bag!

Great Company - Great Trip
4/5

We had a really good trip with Kilimanjaro Budget Safaries...it was well organized and all four of us reached the top of mount Kilimanjaro...thanks to the guides and their advice...
The food was amazing, we wouldn't have expected to get such nice meals on our climbing trip...also the porters were really nice.
I recommend the company...and would do a Kili-Tour with them again...

Well laid out 2,5 day Safari tour
4/5

We booked the tour based on recommendations and were not disappointed. We were picked up promptly at the small Arusha airport and taken to the Cloud View lodge, which is a small hotel on the outskirts of Arusha. The hotel was Ok and quiet.
We had a good briefing of the program The hotel is ok. We then went on a tour to a near by Masai settlement. This could have been better organized. Lots of waling on the main road and a somewhat cramped journey back in one of the local taxi buses. We went to the Tarangire National park, well worth the visit, but watch out for the Vervet monkeys when you have lunch. We stayed the Sunbright campsite in Mto Wa Mbu. Fairly basic. The tour operator brought a cook that provided ok breakfast and dinner. On the third day we visit the Ngorongoro crater. spectacular. The supplied 4x4 game drive vehicle was good and the driver/guide very good. The last day we visited the Lake Manyara NP, very close to village where we stayed, before we departed from the Arusha Airport.

Famous for the Baobab trees and also a great number of elephants during the dry season, everything here happens around the Tarangiry river. Close to Arusha gives easy acces and good for family's with children.

Mahale is a very good park to see the chimpanzee. Lake Tanganyika is very good for fishing and sunsets. In the lake live a lot of endemic cichlids.

Many buffalo in the park and lions which hunt on the buffalo. Nice marshes which provide water to the wildlife.

Magical Mana Pools
Overall rating
4/5

This great flood plain of the Zambezi is 2500 square kilometres , dotted with pools, islands and sandbanks. It is home to four of the Big Five ( didn't see any rhino)...it is an excellent area for anyone wanting to see big game. Elephant and buffalo herds are a plenty, and there is very good opportunity to see lion. It is home to endangered wild dogs - and their natural enemy, the hyena. And in the many small "pans" of receding water swarm hippos and Nile crocodiles. The area is filled with stretches of mahogany and acacia trees, interspersed with the odd and prehistoric looking baobab trees.
I made the trip in September - and it was hot (36 degrees Celsius), dusty and dry....but game drives and wildlife viewing was rewarding, with the ever dwindling water sources bringing together herbivores and the great predators. There are quite a few lodges and safari groups that do business in the area, and the camp that I stayed in was quite good, boasting twin occupancy tents with en suite facilities, and hot water. The food was fabulous! Home away from home! It pays to have a good guide who knows the local area, something I would whole heartedly recommend!
I am not a birder, but even in the dry summer season I was there, there was no shortage of fish eagles, herons, exquisite lilac breasted rollers, the odd looking hamerkop... I did see the odd martial eagle. Night time game drives are not permitted within the Mana conservation area.

Nearly everything was good, the guide (and driver) and the cook were very friendly
4/5

We did a trip with Mabri Adventure Safaris to Serengeti, to Ngorongoro Crate and to Tanguire National Parc. Maribi Adventure Safaris is a really good company. Albert and Rose are reliable businesspeople. Our guide was Eric, a very friendly and humorous man with very good German knowledge. Our meals were delicious - sorry, I forgot the name of the fantastic cook.
Unfortunately we had a very old safari car and several breakdowns. Therefore we couldn't do all trips as we had planned. This was very bad luck!
