Sehlabathebe National Park has more than 110 bird species recorded, many of which are Afromontane specials, such as the Drakensberg rockjumper and yellow-breasted pipit. Cliff-nesting species include the Cape vulture and lanner falcon. The high-altitude tarns (mountain lakes) support some interesting species, such as the great crested grebe. The handsome bearded vulture can sometimes be seen soaring over the dramatic rocky landscape.
