A wonderful family holiday: A country full of wonder.

We holidayed as a family with 2 teeenage children (any experience must fight against their smartphones!) I had been to South Africa 2 years after democracy and I did have some trepidation regarding crime. First let me say I found the people wonderfully friendly and while I am sure some crime exists and visitors must be careful; a lot of effort has gone into making South Africa safer.
First we had a 5 night trip to the Kruger with Endless Summer. Our family had one guide and one driver (Wayne and Lucky). Both were very good and we are grateful for their excellent service. Kruger is massive and not a safari park. It is real wild and there can be long periods without excitement and then suddenly it explodes with life-remembered memories. We finished with Blyde Canyon for natural physical beauty.
Next was Addo Elephant Park, just 2 nights of self-guided safari. We followed this with self drive down the garden route to Capetown. The garden route is a trip of natural beauty. Capetown

is wonderful but 5 days was maybe a day too long despite the children experiencing new thrills ( dune buggying and para-gliding). Capetown is an example of the efforts that have gone into making the streets relatively safe with a host of 'security' personel.
If you want something different than just beaches try South Africa. Remember to check weather for the time of year!

We are a retired Asian couple from the USA. We went in early June to Kruger National Park. The weather was excellent. The number of tourists was small and of no hinderance. The people were very kind and cheerful. The children were respectful, which is a reflection of their good upbringing and culture. We felt safe and comfortable walking in Hazyview. Our tour with Elephant Herd Tours & Safaris was excellent. I cannot imagine a better driver than the one we had. His eyesight was amazing. He could spot a needle in a haystack. I would recommend a tour rather than self-drive, to note that we almost never ever join tours. It was all amazing. We rented a car and visited Bourke's Luck Potholes which was unique and interesting. We also went to Three Rondavels View Point with its beautiful views.

Cape Town is a must, lots to see and do! There are load of good restaurants and pubs but I think Quay Four deserves a mention. We had a fantastic meal here. We stayed in the in Onomo Waterfront hotel, it was good value for money, clean and close enough to walk to the V&A Waterfront.
We flew from Cape Town to Durban and then to Lanseria on FlySafair. Great airline, easy to book with their mobile app. The flights were on time and everything went like clockwork.
We stayed in Umdloti on the North cost, we rented a private apartment. Also lots to do in the area and lovely beaches.
In Johannesburg area we visited The elephant Sanctuary, what a great experience, highly recommended!
We booked a visit to Pilansberg via MoAfrika. They did a wonderful job. We asked for an afternoon and a morning game drive with 1 night's accommodation. This was all handled by them. We stayed at Kwa Maritane, lovely place with fantastic meals. Our game drive with MoAfrika's

vehicle was great, the guide knew his stuff and made sure we saw some animals. Unfortunately the Pilansberg was disappointing, the roads are in a terrible state and not as much game as expected. I would rather go to Kruger National Park next time.

We were a family group of adults looking to celebrate retirement. A group of eight of us booked through Safaribookings.com with Wild Planet Safaris. We spent 11 days in beautiful Souh Africa. The wildlife and scenery were second to none and I have been on safari before in different countries. The people were fantastically friendly and helpful. We felt safe and comfortable all the time. And luckily for us, the exchange rate meant that it was excellent value for money. We saw the big five in Kruger with amazing sites every day and no crowds. We also had a few days enjoying the beauty of the Panorama route which was stunning and a great way to end our trip. Thank you South Africa for giving us memories we will cherish.

A group of us travelled to Cape Town for business (all women) but also had time for sightseeing. We came across our Tour Guide, Munier Daniels (@agentktours) by chance but what a find! We travelled the Peninsula to the Cape of Good Hope, passing beautiful scenery and through lovely areas like Camps Bay and stopped at Houts Bay to see the seals. On our way we saw ostriches by the roadside and a big baboon! We saw the penguins in Simons Town and stopped at a lovely little restaurant by the harbour and on the way out we saw at least 8 baboons, sitting on the wall!! We tried to fit in our visit to Table Mountain in the sunshine but unfortunately, that didn't work and when we got to the top the clouds had rolled in and we didn't see very much but it was still an experience to get there and learn from our guide the history of the reclaimed land and the mountain itself. We also managed to see a Dassie, but kept well back! We visited Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden which was

just wonderful, it is so beautiful and peaceful and we took loads of photos. We would have liked longer but the Gardens were closing, however going later in the day it was quiet and it felt like we had the gardens to ourselves. We visited Cassia (Ntida) wine farm for an organised event and the food and setting was amazing, not to mention the wine and the very attentive staff.
After our business was complete we had a pre-arranged overnight safari booked at Inverdoorn Nature Reserve where we saw the Big Five and stayed in very luxurious accommodation with exception food. The sun was shining and it was very warm when we got there, not quite warm enough to make use of the private pool. However, the morning Safari on Day 2 was freezing, it was raining and windy and we couldn't feel our fingers - tip: take scarves and gloves if going in May/June. Our guide was very knowledgeable and answered any questions we had. It was a great experience and one that we will all remember.
We stayed at Seapoint but took Ubers into the Waterfront for restaurants and shopping but to be honest, there were loads of restaurants where we were staying and they were excellent. We had a special meal at Belly of the Beast (wow!!!) and enjoyed more delicious food at Sevruga, Ouzeri and Balthazar and Maggy Lous and Butter at Seapoint.
We all had an amazing time in Cape Town, the weather wasn't the best but that's understandable coming into winter. The scenery is just breathtaking, people are very helpful and kind and the food was another level. Coming from the UK, we were very lucky with a strong exchange rate and prices were very, very reasonable. Being a group of women on our own, we did not venture out on our own after dark and just ordered Ubers from our Hotel to wherever we wanted to go.
All in all, an amazing country that all of us in our group would like to return to!!
