My Safari in Kenya – A Journey we will Never Forget
We have travelled to many places, but nothing compares to the magic I felt in Kenya. I booked a 3-day safari through Safari Bookings that took me from Mombasa to Emali by train and onward to Amboseli in Jeep, every moment felt like stepping into a nature documentary.

Amboseli: Elephants and Kilimanjaro Amboseli was a dream. One morning, we watched a herd of elephants cross the dusty plains with Mount Kilimanjaro glowing in the background. If you’ve ever dreamed of seeing elephants roam freely beneath the towering silhouette of Mount Kilimanjaro, Amboseli National Park is where that dream comes to life. From the moment we entered the park, the landscape felt cinematic—dusty plains dotted with acacia trees, shimmering swamps, and the snow-capped peak of Kilimanjaro looming like a guardian in the distance. Our driver was phenomenal, effortlessly spotting wildlife and sharing stories that brought the ecosystem

The highlight? Watching a herd of elephants cross the marshlands at sunset. Calves playfully splashed in the water while older matriarchs led the way with quiet authority. It was humbling and beautiful. We also saw lions lounging in the shade, stalking prey in the distance, and flocks of flamingos painting the wetlands pink. Birdwatchers will be in heaven—Amboseli is home to over 400 bird species. The park is well-maintained, and the lodges nearby offer stunning views and warm hospitality. It’s dusty, yes—but that’s part of the charm. Bring a mask, scarf, a good camera, and an open heart. Amboseli isn’t just a destination—it’s a revelation. If you love elephants, giraffe, gazelles, zebras, monkeys’ hippopotamus and many more animals roaming freely and dramatic landscapes, and raw, untamed beauty, this is the safari for you.

People & Culture
Beyond the wildlife, the Kenyan people made this trip unforgettable. Very friendly helpful, our driver was brilliant knew the route and knowledge of most animal behaviours and their history exceptional driver/guide.

Lodges & Comfort
Each lodge was thoughtfully chosen — from canvas tents under the stars to eco-lodges with panoramic views. The food was fresh, the staff were attentive, and the evenings were filled with laughter and storytelling.
Final Reflection Kenya didn’t just show me animals — it showed me life in its rawest, most beautiful form. If you’re considering a safari, don’t hesitate. Kenya will change you.

Our journey through Kenya was nothing short of spectacular – and we have Will and Chris to thank for making it an unforgettable experience from start to finish.

Will from Incredible Africa Trail was the mastermind behind the entire trip. From the initial planning stages, he took the time to understand exactly what we wanted — and delivered far beyond our expectations. No request was too big or too small (e.g. train tickets, visits to Hell`s Kitchen...). Will made sure that all of our special wishes were taken into account, even when they went beyond his own services. Whether it was arranging specific accommodations, organizing a climb of Mount Kenya, or setting up unique experiences through his personal network – he handled it all with care, professionalism, and incredible attention to detail.

Once we arrived in Kenya, we were in the best possible hands with Chris, our guide and driver. Chris was absolutely fantastic – extremely knowledgeable, always
Read more helpful, and deeply passionate about his country. He made every moment of our safari exciting, safe, and full of insight. His energy, humor, and kindness made us feel like we were traveling with a friend who genuinely cared about our experience.

We explored Tsavo East, Tsavo West, Amboseli, and Lake Nakuru National Park – each one offering its own unique landscapes and wildlife. From wide open savannahs and views of Mount Kilimanjaro to encounters with elephants, lions, flamingos, and so much more – every day brought new highlights, perfectly timed and seamlessly organized.

The lodges and camps Will selected were all excellent – comfortable, scenic, and save. Every transition between locations was smooth, and we could just relax and enjoy the adventure, knowing everything was taken care of.

This was not just a holiday – it was a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience, brought to life by two incredibly dedicated people. We wholeheartedly recommend Will for anyone looking to plan a customized, stress-free, and truly unforgettable trip to Kenya — and if you're lucky enough to have Chris as your guide, you're in for something very special.

Asante sana, Will and Chris from Incredible Africa Trails! We’ll never forget this journey.

Kenya is an amazing destination where every day feels like an adventure. The wildlife parks, from the Masai Mara to Amboseli, are full of incredible animals and unforgettable scenery, with Mount Kilimanjaro as a backdrop. Beyond the safaris, the local culture is rich and welcoming; the warmth of the Kenyan people makes the experience truly special. The weather was generally pleasant, and I felt safe and well taken care of throughout my trip. Highly recommended for anyone who wants both natural beauty and cultural depth!

We booked our Safari through Henry who organised the tented camps we wished to stay in for the ever changing number of guests we had! As no one could make up their mind. Patience of a saint. We organised drivers as we had to travel from one National Park to another, but you could use the camp guides if preferred or you are staying in one camp for your trip and they probably know where the game is, as working there every day. Camps inside your chosen park work well as you can stay in the parks longer before they close at 6pm. So if you are staying outside a park you might want to have a whole day in, with a picnic to see the most of it, often it takes 1.5hrs to get to the centres where the game is, especially if just a short stay like we had. Also it’s very important to get new Safari 4x4s with lifting tops not open sides. With USB charging points as your phones will go flat over a full day. Your guide’s if not camp guides are key, they will be showing you all the key spots and talking
Read more about the habitat and animals, check out if they are a qualified guides or trackers. Safari bookings were great and if you follow these tips you will have a wonderful trip which ever safari park you visit. Tsavo East was a huge savannah with much ground to cover but most of the game and elephant is along the Galana river. Amboseli is much smaller, with its lakes and flat marsh, provides for hippo and elephant and most species of antelope. We didn’t see Lion in Amboseli but caught a glimpse of Hyena but the wading birds are beautiful and a wide range of species with flamingo and pelican amongst the hippo if your a birder. Our camp Discovery Camp delightful and simple with a fire pit and pool and importantly owned and run by local Kenyans inside the park for early or night game drives.

An Absolutely Amazing Experience!!

Our trip to Kenya was amazing and exceeded my wildest expectations! The safari at the Masai Mari did not disappoint as we saw all of the Big Five. It was stunning to see a pride of lions, who had just taken down a buffalo, devour the beast before our very eyes. To see the rhino, running free (and as fast as our vehicle) elicited oohs and ahs from our entire vehicle. We also visited Lake Nakuru and witnessed it diversity of wildlife and all of the different birds. To witness the vast expanse of the Great Rift Valley was breathtaking. Our final stop was Lake Naivasha where we were overwhelmed by the flora and the fauna, and just the natural beauty of the place. The locals were super friendly, very welcoming, and extremely humble, and made you feel welcome in their country. The food was delicious, and I recommend sampling some of the local dishes for a unique gastronomical experience. Overall, I am very satisfied with my Kenyan experience and have already began making plans to return for

The Trip of a Lifetime, But There are Some Things to Know Before You Go

4 / 5 4 /5
5 / 5 4 / 5 4 / 5 4 / 5
The Good:
My wife and I had an amazing time in the Maasai Mara and surrounding area. The wildlife was abundant, the landscape beautiful, and the local Masai people are very friendly. It was the trip of a lifetime, and as a photographer I couldn't be happier at the images I was able to get. Believe me when I say that the good outweighs the bad and the ugly, which are commented on below. I highly recommend a trip to Kenya, but the comments below are just to give a realistic picture regarding some of the challenges you can expect.

The Bad:
The main drawback is that it can feel overwhelming when you are approached by so many people trying to sell merchandise every time your vehicle stops when you are outside the game reserve. Also, keep in mind that there are no services near the game reserve for pulling out cash. Even our lodge did not have an ATM. Even if there were an ATM, I found out later that my ATM card will not work in Kenya, as my US bank refuses to
Read more do business in the country. Also, the lodge could not break larger bills in American dollars. So bring enough small bills for tips, which you will need everywhere.

The Ugly:
For someone who has not been to an underdeveloped country, the extreme poverty can be a bit jolting. My wife and I have traveled extensively, so we knew what to expect. But with extreme poverty comes the need for security when you are a tourist. We stayed overnight in Nyrobi before heading out to the game reserve and I've never seen so much security screening required just to enter the hotel property. The vehicle was searched by security staff. Then to enter the hotel you go thru TSA style security with bags being scanned and stepping thru a scanner. You can't access the elevator or even the hallway to your room without a key card. That is good for our protection, but sad to see it as being necessary due to criminal elements in the city. We never felt unsafe outside the hotel as long as we were with our guide. However, we would have felt very unsafe without him.
