More animals than expected!

We did a four day safari, taking in Tarangire, the crater and Lake Manyara. Tarangire was fantastic with lots of wildlife to see. If you only have a day this would be a great place to visit.

There are plenty of taxis available for getting around easily and safely.

Great Safari, crappy car which cause troubles
Overall rating
4/5

It was great safari experience we booked with Migration Ventures Africa LTD, during short period of time we got see almost all animals from very close distance (like next to the car)

However the car was '92 Land Cruiser which couldnt start even before the trip (need a push to start) and with that we took 400km ride from DAR to Mikumi park. So things wouldnt be bad but on the way back our car broke down and we spent 5 hours in the sun with no food waiting for it to be fixed. We had to hurry to the airport for our flights (connecting ones!) and were complete freaking out we're not gonna make it. There was no back up plan or any plan to get us another car - just expectation for miracle to happen.

It did happen and we happilly made it to the airport but honestly, you should not risk it that way.

Other than that experience was really authentic and cool so I would recommend getting to the part by plane (not 8 hours or more drive) and enjoy the show. Or at least dont plan it just before the flight...

Loved the crater and Serengeti, so unique and so full of animals.
Overall rating
4/5

We have been to Africa a number of times, but a few things stood out and were unique about Tanzania - we really enjoyed our family trip.

The features of the Ngorongoro crater and the vibe down there were once in a life time. Absolutely teaming with animals and we saw lions feasting on their kill. It was a highlight just to stand on the rim and look down at this unique geological feature.

The vastness and amount of animals in the Serengeti. We did see the migration crossing, but on the Mara side we experienced some quiet peaceful Africa too.

The itinery that Wayfairer put together was perfect and the accomodation mostly perfect too. We especially enjoyed the 2 Serengeti camps - Chaka Camp and Kati Kati camp. Wayfairer were quick to react to our requests.

Unfortunately the guide we had during the 8 days was not great, a contrast to the overall friendly and fun loving local people, we enjoyed that interaction. One thing did bother us, which I have not seen elsewhere in Africa, is the amount of vehicles that will crowd around animals, kills, crossings, literally stopping the dynamics of the crossing. There seems no respect or protocol and it did put us off.

Otherwise, wonderful trip.

Our July 2019 Tanzania Private Safari (Migration) Trip
Overall rating
4/5

We were on a private fly-in safari tour in Tanzania and visited Tarangire National Park, Manyara National Park, Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National Park (Central and Northern part of the Park). We enjoyed our safari immensely, great game drives, comfortable lodge and camp accommodations and had a great time with our experienced safari driver/travel guide, Mbonea, a true professional. The of the main reasons we went in Tanzania on this time frame was to photograph the wildebeest river crossing. We were fortunate to experience and see two wildebeest river crossing episodes in Northern Serengeti’s Masai Mara River. The game drives in the National Parks we visited were fantastic, here are a short list of animals we saw roaming free and wild: elephants, lions, giraffes, leopards, cape buffaloes, zebras, gazelles, hippos, baboons, wildebeests, cheetahs, mongoose, warthogs, hayraxes, impalas, dik-diks, elands, reebucks, crocodiles, many different birds (eagles, storks, ostriches, flamingos, vultures, hornbills. ), baobab trees and many more…. The gorgeous sunny weather throughout our visit help made the trip so much fun.

Special thanks to Belen with Travel Partners for patiently answering our inquiries before the trip, she put together our itinerary and arranged the awesome safari adventure.

Great safari, but be careful with tipping in Zanzibar
Overall rating
4/5

Wildlife in Tanzania was incredible: we saw a lot of animals (lions, giraffes, hippos, zebras, leopards, etc.) and beautiful landscape like the plains of Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater. We did a safari with "Bestday Safari" and made great experiences with them: delicious food, awesome guide, game drive in a great car. Overall it's a safe country with nice people, although on Zanzibar you have to pay attention to the people selling all kinds of stuff (from snorkeling tours to marihuana): they are sometimes a bit annoying, although you probably have people wanting to sell you stuff all over the world. What we really didn't like was the thing about tipping: no one is going to do anything for you without wanting to be tipped. We arrived for example at the airport in Zanzibar, went out of the building and got asked by a guy in safety vest what we were looking for. And just thinking that someone in safety vest working for the airport was probably trying to help us was a mistake. Of course he wanted to have money from us afterwards, like a lot of people do. So pay attention if someone really wants to help you or is actually just looking for your money.

Spectacular Wildlife and Birds
Overall rating
4/5

We spent 2 days in Tarangire, 4 days in Serengeti and a day in Ngorongoro Crater. We went with Soul of Tanzania as they had been the most responsive and patient with our queries. Our guide Huruma was fantastic with amazing eyesight. He spotted a lot of wildlife for us including birds. Counted over 50 new birds on this trip. We also managed to witness the Wilderbeests crossing. Being an avid birder, this was a great plus. Soul of Tanzania were very efficient in solving our problems. We were however, disappointed with Nimali Camp at Tarangire as they put us in tent 9 which did not have enough power for a hair dryer. We were supposed to go for a night drive but we cancelled it as the lodge manager asked us to use a hair dryer in his office! Imagine showering in your tent late after a game drive and having to get changed and walk to the office to get your hair done! The power at Nimali also tripped when we plugged in our devices to charge. Tents 1-8 had enough power for a hair dryer. The lodge manager should have put us in one of the other tents as none of the other guests was going for a night drive. Really no common sense! Our other lodges, Chaka Kiowa and Chaka Camp were good with Kiowa having slightly better service. Ngorongoro Garmhouse was fabulous with a good spread of food at meals. The only negative feedback is that they didn’t provide tissue paper. Sanctuary Ngorongoro tent is one of the 5 inside the Ngorongoro Crater and they were just fabulous. They even had hot water put into the tank in the morning so that we didn’t have to wash our faces in freezing water. African Tulip where we stayed for the front and back end of our tour was good.

Lifetime experiece to see the wild animals so close in their natural habitat!
Overall rating
4/5

The land of natural wonders.
I did a 4 day safari in Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro and was able to spot all the animals very close except rhino. But is understandable that due to illegal poaching their numbers have been significantly reduced and according to our guide there were just 10-20 Rhinos left in the area. As they are also shy creatures, we were just able to witness one sleeping in the grass. Apart from that, we crossed numerous pride of linos, herds of elephants, crash of hippos, cape buffaloes and a couple of leopards.

If you ever think of a safari trip, Serengeti is a must!
