Sindabezi Island was complete redeveloped a few years back by its Tongabezi owners. Situated a frog’s hop upstream of the Victoria Falls, the island now boasts a cutting-edge eco-lodge with all the safari comforts.

Five romantic wood-and-thatch rooms allow a maximum of ten guests to experience the secluded island’s delightful comforts. On the sustainability side of things, all sewage on the island is treated via an advanced water-waste system, which purifies it to the point where it can be used to water and compost the lodge’s vegetable gardens. Guests are also provided a bag on arrival in which they place all non-biodegradable waste during their stay. Upon their departure these bags are retuned to the mainland for appropriate recycling and disposal.

Solar-powered Sindabezi is a proud member of the top 50 sustainable safari operations, as selected by David Bristow and Colin Bell for inclusion in their magnificent coffee table book: Africa’s Finest. This ecologically responsible book identifies the handful of truly sustainable safari operations from amidst the confusion of eco-pirates that have overrun the African safari lodge industry. If you’d like to get your hands on a copy of their book, then you can order it here.
