Wonderful 2-week experience in Rwanda - Gorillas, Safari, Beaches, Museums and More
This was an amazing experience from start to finish. I booked a 14-day experience through Golden Rwanda Tours which included chimpanzee, gorilla and golden monkey trekking, a 5-day safari as well as visits to the Dian Fossey, Richard Kandt, King's Palace and Genocide museums. Frank, the tour company owner, provided excellent communication in the months leading up to the trip and handled all of the logistics (lodging, transportation, meals, permits, airport pickup and drop off). My tour guide, Muhammed, was very knowledgeable about the history of the region, identifying antelope and bird species during my safari and introducing me to various cultural experiences such as visiting a local women's center and the Kigali market.
The monkey, chimpanzee and gorilla trekking excursions were handled by local guides. A word of caution, be mindful of your fitness level. These can be grueling hikes across Rwanda's hilly terrain so make every effort to build your strength and cardio before you arrive. All in all, this was an incredible once-in-a-lifetime experience. The food, lodging and overall hospitality were all top notch. I highly recommend Golden Rwanda Tours.

A big thank you to the Meru Slopes Team - we had a great Safari thanks to Leonard who organized everything in an excellent way, answering immediately when a question showed up. Daniel was driving us safely, always spreading out good mood, finding all the animals for us, answering all our questions about them and finding solid solutions, even when we had a breakdown with the car - what can happen on pists like these. Last but not least we had agreed Chef and „stomach engineer“ who took care of us in a delicious way. All together, you made this trip to a special and wonderful experience for us!

Spending three days camping and exploring the safari with my closest friends was a wonderful experience with Kibo Mawenzi Safaris. The safari drives were thrilling and full of wildlife viewing opportunities in a respectful and natural environment. The campsite was comfortable and clean and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. We loved spending the evenings sitting around the fire enjoying delicious food and talking about the exciting experiences of the day. The best price AND the best service? I didn't believe it either
Rioba Safaris delivered everything they promised — and choosing them was the hardest part.
We're a family of five (two adults, three kids) and we spent weeks researching safari operators for our Kenya–Tanzania trip. If you've gone through this process, you know how overwhelming it is — dozens of companies, similar itineraries, no way to tell who's legit and who isn't.
From the very first message, Joseph and Donant were incredibly patient with us. I'm not exaggerating when I say we went through at least 20 revisions of the itinerary. I kept changing destinations, asking about different lodges, adding and removing days, requesting a Spanish-speaking guide — and every single time they came back quickly with an updated proposal, no complaints, no pressure. That level of responsiveness before they'd received a single dollar from us said a lot.
Then I did something that I'd recommend to anyone in this situation: I took Rioba's final itinerary and sent it to several other agencies for comparison quotes. Rioba's price was significantly lower — and I mean not even close. Honestly, that made me nervous. When something is much cheaper, you wonder what's being cut. But by that point I'd been communicating with them for weeks and their professionalism had earned my trust, so I went with my gut.
I'm so glad I did. Once on the ground, everything was exactly as agreed — the vehicles, the accommodations, the guide, the logistics of crossing from Kenya into Tanzania overland. No surprises, no hidden costs, no last-minute changes. With three kids in tow, that kind of reliability is everything.
If you're reading this while agonizing over which company to book with — I get it. I was right where you are. My advice: talk to them, ask for references from past clients, compare their quote against others, and judge them by how they handle your twentieth email asking to change something. Compass Odyssey designed and executed a 16 day trip for us that included 4 countries and various experiences including, but also beyond safaris. Communication during the planning phase was easy and smooth despite a 9 hour time zone difference. From an execution perspective, Compass’s communication prepared us for what to pack, what to consider regarding vaccine/malaria meds, how immigration/customs would work, etc. Transit across the countries was smooth as the team was waiting for us at each airport and the instructions of what to expect upon crossing borders was clear ahead of travel, allowing us to handle some aspects ahead of time to expedite. The variety of activities was well thought out and matched our preferred cadence very well. The places that we stayed all exceeded our expectations, each being very customer focused and having unique qualities. More than anything, the local guides and safari guides were exceptional! Wonderful
Everything was thought of on our trip. The team made it all so good. The wildlife sightings were incredible and our guide was knowledgeable. At camp, the food was tasty and plentiful and the camp was comfortable. We enjoyed the company of the team too, when they joined us for drives and sat with us around the fire. The communications throughout the planning stage were excellent and David made suggestions to ensure we had the best time.
