Khutse Game Reserve
Khutse Game Reserve is the Kalahari’s most compact public reserve. Here you can also tap into the detailed local knowledge of scientists studying lion and leopard.
Khutse Game Reserve is perhaps the least known of Botswana’s Kalahari reserves. And it offers some of the best, and least-crowded wildlife-watching in Botswana. With healthy populations of both lion and leopard, as well as a full suite of prey (gemsbok in particular are everywhere), this is a fabulous reserve.
It also combines the accessibility that comes with being so close to Gaborone. It has the remote feel of the deep Kalahari (the reserve is contiguous with the southern reaches of the vast Central Kalahari Game Reserve).
Moreswe Pan is the prettiest corner of the reserve and receives far fewer visitors. And keep a track of your sightings. Sheets at the reserve gate provide contact details for scientists working in the reserve so that you can let them know what you’ve seen. Photos are always good. And you, in turn, may receive a more detailed history of the lion or leopard in question.
